Question
I personally use a blade putter , but im just curious why mallet putters have become so popular.
Answered by Andy C
Putting is all feel. Some people have a better feel for putting with a mallet putter, and vice versa
Answered by c g +1
Simple answer-mallet putters are designed for more straight back straight through type putting strokes and blades work better with more swinging gate type strokes. Alignment aids on the putter are more helpful to players trying to keep the putter straight back and through
Answered by Ron The Independent
Yeah Andy’s got it. I can’t stand the weight of a blade putter, it feels too light, and the mallet putter I use ( an old Ping G2i Craz-e) is perfect weight and I feel I have complete control
Answered by Jason G
I started out using a blade putter, but that particular putter felt light to me. I tried Nike’s Blue Chip Mallet putter and loved the way it felt. I’ve used it for 5 years. I’ve recently tried the IC-20 putter by Nike which is a blade putter and love the way it feels. The common denominator in what I’ve said is how it feels. I don’t know if I’ll get the IC-20 because I still like my mallet putter.
Question
I was just at the ML Shootout in Naples and was wondering what kind of blade putter he was using.
Answered by bootcuted
He uses his cane because he is old and washed up. go saints
Answered by Foolstein
it look like an wilson 8802, but since he promotes macgregor, it probably is one of the older macgregor models refinished
Answered by daniel s
it is a wilson 8802 he used it about 10 years ago and pulled it out last week and he just felt good with it
Question
I heard good things on the Ping iWi blad putter and rife putter
Answered by swim bro
scotty cameron studio select. this is the “prototype” that the pros use.(most used putter on tour) its just a little modified to thier specifications making it a prototype.

definatley worth the money and the new custom shop allows you to really “trick out your putter.”

this is a great investment.

Answered by DB
Depends what you like yourself. Some of the best putters are among the Odyssey,Scotty Cameron, and Yes! Putter brands. I prefer the Scotty Cameron Newport 2, but the Yes! Tracy lll Plus is also nice. But then again, all that matters is your opinion, not someone elses.
Answered by googie
The best putter on the market is the putter that feels comfortable when you stroke the ball. The reason there are more putters available than any other club is the seeking of the magic wand .The player is seldom at fault for wayward putts. It is always the club.

Question
I don’t want to change putters because I have really good touch and feel with it. My putting motion is a sort of pendulum motion with a slight bit of arc. Any suggestions on what to do?
Answered by SmartA$ $
How can you have great touch if everything is going to the right?

Anyway, a heavy putter with high MOI (Moment of inertia) would probably help. Otherwise just aim a little further left.

Answered by green_lantern66
use the popular gate drill. Place two tees in the ground, just slightly wider than your putterhead. Make a putting stroke. If you hit the gate (especially the right tee in your case) your path is off. This can be done indoors with books or magazines, as well. Speed isn’t important- just your path.

You can also use one of those floating noodles- the long, tubular floatation devices you can find at Wal-Mart or wherever. This might actually be more beneficial to you, as you have an arcing stroke. As with the above, this can be done indoors, as well.

My blade putter is 78 years old. The Greatest Putter was Walter J. Travis. You won’t know him because he lived in the 19th and early 20th century. His putting technique has been handed down by a few.

You need to do some homework and do some searching but here are some things to get you started.

A blade putter will create reverse loft once the hands are ahead of the ball. The reverse loft will by itself create over spin and over spin or top spin is how you keep the ball on track.

Putt with your right elbow (right handed golfer). The hands are tight and you putt with the right elbow. The elbow brings the club head back and the extension of the right elbow is the follow through.

There is only one problem with a blade. There is no directional markings to help you for the line. First develop top spin by putting with the right elbow then practice on your direction.

There’s more help available if you want it.

Answered by ruaballa
if your pushing everything right its because your using your wrist in your putting stroke you should only use your arms and shoulders. A heavier putter might also help too.
