Question
What’s the difference? I just purchased a Cleveland Hibore XLS Draw 12.0* driver. What difference over the regular driver?
Answered by Chuck P
It’s weighted and offset to promote a draw. I don’t like that sort of club, it’s hard enough to play straight clubs.
Answered by Tom M
certain weights in the club to help create a draw OR if you tend to slice the ball it will help straighten your drives. but dnt expect it to make all your drives go with a perfect draw lol. This is the real world.
Answered by Molly
Nothing beats proper lessons.

Draw driver = closed clubface, weight on the heel.

Answered by Jill R
They put more weight in the heel, this makes the toe lighter than the heel. Since the toe is now lighter it travels faster than the heel promoting a quicker closing of the clubface, and voila more right to left spin and a better chance of a draw
Answered by Jay E
The heel of the club is weighted and is therefore supposed to promote a draw swing. “Regular” drivers have most of the weight centered in the club. That’s also how they do that adjustable weight stuff.

Everyone is gonna give you different answers because its everyones opinion. Some people hit the callaway better than the nike. Like for instance, one of my brothers hits the Callaway ft-3, my other brother hits the Nike Sasquatch and my dad hits the taylormade r5. Its all personal preference. I made that mistake when I got a new driver. I asked a bunch of people and went with what they told me — I got the driver and hated it. I ended up sending it back and getting a new one. Plus, some people like the square head and some don’t. If you are considering purchasing one, I would suggest going to a golf store or a course and demo each club. See which one you like the best — get fit for it and you are set! Good Luck :)

____________edit_______________
my brother just came home with the ping G5. He said he likes it a lot better than the sasquatch — and my other brother broke his ft-3 like 5 minutes ago playing (he just called me). He thinks he wants to get a different driver but hes not sure. Its all about what you want and what works with your swing. I hate the sound of the square heads and some of the other drivers — but thats my opinion. Its completly up to you.

Answered by Big Buddy
I have hit them all, believe me – Callaway’s sound sucks and the distance is medium at best – the sasquatch is awful to look at while you are setting up and it feels like you’re swinging a brick at the end of the club, the Hi Bore has a weird feel at impact and the hibore feels like it’s hollow when you square the ball up – I haven’t tried the Adams driver but I would if I thought it would make me more consistant and give me a few more yards – after hitting 20-30 drivers, I narrowed it down to the Ping G5 and the Titleist 905R – I went with the Titleist because it looks so good at set up and the feel at impact is sooooo butter – it has “tightened” my disbursement meaning that I rarely miss my target by more than 10-15 yards – and the distance is great – not as far as the Ping but I’ll give up a few yards to keep them in the fairway – the key is to hit all of the drivers that you mentioned and maybe a few more and then start to narrow your choices based on the preferences that are important to you – good luck

The Taylormades are nice
Answered by Gary G
all opinions go to a golf shop and try to get set up on a launch monitor and that willl give you your best results of each club
Answered by Rip
There is no best. I play the HiBore and only missed 3 fairways last weekend. Was it the club or was it the golfer?
Question
I’m a major slicer and I need a knew driver, my first was a used cobra 440sz,I’ve been teetering between the clevland hibore xls and the taylor made burner both in a draw. Anybody have an opinion on these clubs or maybe something better?
Answered by justin k
my buddy had last years new r7 draw and it worked quite well to help his slice. generally the higher the club face angle the more slice you are trying to correct. If I were you I would find someone who can help you out with the slice, your game will be alot better off if you can correct your mechanics rather than buying equipment to adjust for them because that keeps you from ever getting it right.
Answered by mbl
All the major manufacturers make a good quality driver. If any of them were clearly the best, everybody would be using it. Make sure you get the correct loft and the correct shaft. Beyond that, get the one that looks best to you standing over it.
Answered by italiangolfer
i would say to lean more towards the taylormade draw or the r7 because of the ability to change the weights, thus making it easier to make the club more specific to your slice than the general slice. i would also say to get lessons because thats the only true way to improve your game, but not everyone has the time to do this.
Answered by Flatstick
If you are not going to try to correct the slicing, go with the Burner Draw it is designed for someone who just wants to grip it and rip it. The face is about 4 degrees closed so as you come over the top and cut across the ball you might actually have the clubface square at impact once in awhile and hit it straight.
Answered by KVQS
i have a taylor made burner and hit it with a draw nearly all the time but i have been playing for years
it isnt really the driver these days its all about the shaft
the main thing is a club that you are comfortable with
if your local pro has a bag of 2nd hand drivers take a few to the range and just try hitting 20 or so balls with each
a little tip try to grip a little tighter with your left hand
Question
I am contemplating buying a new Cleveland HiBore driver. I hit one at the driving range and it was amazing. But now, there is a new model out (HiBore XL in regular and Tour versions). The price for the new model is $ 299 and it’s just been released for sale at some of the online outlets. The older version (only a year old) is selling for about the same at retail outlets but around $ 165 on ebay. I’m wondering if I should go ahead and get the older version or should I get the newer version. I’m wondering if anyone has seen any reviews of the new one that I could access online. Also, has anyone used last year’s model and what do you think of it?
Answered by emo leprachaun
well, it really depends on how you play golf, if your really serious about it, like making money and crap at golf in tournaments, then yea, buy the hibore XL, but if you just go out to any old course with your friends, then just get the cheaper version, because eiuther way its a good club..
Answered by Daren M
Price shouldn’t be an issue if you look at it as an investment.

Personally I think Cleveland makes a great drive.

I own the Cleveland Launcher Comp. and this how I decide its time to upgrade:

I take my old club and the club that I am thinking about buying and i bring them to a launch monitor. Most good outlets will have one.

If the new one doesn’t out drive my old one, then I keep the old one. If there is improvement worth my $ 200 or $ 300 then I buy it.

I have yet to try the XL but the ol HiBore is not better than my Launcher.

Good luck.

whatever you like, but the Sasquatch is great.

  2. Gol4dude says:

FT-3, I have the FT-5 and it’s the best club i’ve ever hit. I would expect the FT-3 to be the same, or even the X460 works, anything Callaway is good.

  3. Mike says:

    R5 is good.
    R7 is better.
    Get a used one.
Everyone love them, you won’t be sorry.

  4. MIKE W says:

I’m not sure you should go get a new driver yet. I bet you’ve hit some straight drives before with your current driver. You need to duplicate the straight drives and get your swing correct. However if you’re going to buy one anyway, I would go Taylormade.

  5. Jason G says:

The January issue of Golf Magazine rated 6 new drivers(Nike Sumo Square 5900, TaylorMade Burner, Titleist 907 D2, Srixon Z-RW, Ping G10 Draw, and Mizuno MX-560). They rated the Titleist as the best of the bunch. Titleist makes their clubs for the better players for the most part and it said that the mid-handicappers found this club to be not as forgiving directionally as the other drivers. For the TaylorMade Burner they said the shaft was too long for shorter players, but the bigger guys and hard swingers will find it easy to swing. The Srixon driver got good ratings, but mid-handicappers found bad shots were really bad, but the ball jumps off the face of the club. The Ping driver was the best club for mid-high handicappers of the ones they tested especially for those who slice. The Nike driver got good ratings too. The ball flies the highest off this driver of all the ones that were tested. It doesn’t hook or slice. You’ll get more pushes and pulls. They didn’t say anything bad about the driver other than its shape which causes the club to look closed at address. The Mizuno had the closed face at address too and some didn’t like the look of it. Ball jumps off the face and mishits don’t lose much distance.

  6. ixnaytim says:

I can’t miss with the FTI from Callaway. Straight and far. I like the Burner but misses are sparatic. I love the hibore but if you battle a slice this won’t help. Try the FTi or the NIKE Square driver. They help us with the dreaded slice. Try to hit a little out on the toe of your club. Heel shots slice every time, and the toe is more forgiving. Try to move your impact 1/4″ to the toe. It could help. It did me.

  7. Jorge Emilio Sansobar says:

I would keep using the 440 SZ, its easier to square up the clubface on a smaller club. You might find if you upgrade to the 460 CC that it just goes farther into the woods.

  8. danperry.com says:

I got fitted for a driver last year at Golf Galaxy. It cost $ 80, but if you bought one there, the fitting was free. Easily the best thing I’ve ever done with a driver. Here’s why…

If I hit a bad drive now, I KNOW that it’s not the club, so mentally I can’t blame it on the club. The problem is somewhere in the swing, because I got fitted, and KNOW tis is the best driver for me.

Best $ 80 I ever spent, even though I bought the club (Nike Sumo).

  9. Dr. Zachary Smith says:

Don’t waste your money. Get a nice Head you like the look of. “possibly closed”. Stick in a TT lite stiff shaft in it. Swing away. If you slice, just play for it.
