Question
I bought a used 10* C4 driver yesterday for $ 64. I know that when it came out 3 years ago it was around $ 400, so it seems like a good deal.

I got the club to replace the TaylorMade SuperSteel BB that I’ve had since 2001.

I’ve heard that it has a weird sound when striking the ball, because of its’ composite face, that’s similar to hitting a wooden driver.

Does/Has anyone used this club? If so, who do you think of it? Am I going to enjoy hitting it?

Answered by texan_mailman
no
Answered by lane w
ya i have it, its not a bad club but like u said it makes a weird sound of the face, but u can hit it just as good as a driver with a metal face and the club is really light.
Question
Which is better 7,9,10,11 or 12 degrees? How do you know which one to pick?
We are a couple both new to golf, but his driver was lost that came with his first set. He always would slice left.
Answered by 2eighty8 V3.6
Bit confused: Are you the one new to golf or is the big man new? Personally, I’d go with the 10.5 degrees. But get him to try it out; such a pain in the butt when I get new golf equipment and it feels horribly.
Answered by 2thumbs
Noobs should generally go with a higher loft to eliminate pesky spin that may lead to hooking or slicing the drive. I don’t think that 12 is necessary however. Start the big man off with an 11 or 10.5. As his game progresses, he will want to look into a lower lofted driver that will allow him to work the ball. Get him hooked on the game with the high loft though. He’ll love the shape of his shot when he catches it clean:)

Hit em good!

Answered by Jim B
the degrees of loft depends on how high u want to hit the ball

for example if u hit the ball high u would want a lower degree

but generally 10 degrees is the best and most common

Answered by ryandote
It’s a pretty complicated answer, depending on your personal swing. To simplify it, faster swingers should use less loft. (It also depends on launch angle, ball placement, spin, etc. Like I said, it is pretty complicated)

As a general rule, 10-11 degrees is a great place to start. You’ll know when you need to buy a new driver when you understand all the other variables, are able to control them, and are happy to spend $ 300 on a new driver just to pick up a few more yards.

Have you thought about a shaft? Once again, it’s very complicated. Most new golfers should start with a regular flex shaft.

Answered by DODGERFAN4LIFE
i would try to get a draw driver with a 10.5 or a 11 degree loft cuz you will slice and you no cause you want the ball to go higher and the higher degree loft the higher the ball goes
Question
Is it good???and whats the differance between X460 and X460 “tour”???
Answered by Phil
I picked up a used one this year and have been very happy with it. It is quite loud though, but I like the sound (it lets me know when I’ve struck it well). The Tour versions usually come in different lofts (.5 degrees instead of whole numbers) with a slightly more open face. In general, they will be harder to use but allow you to draw / fade the ball easier. I would recommend the standard version unless you know how to work the ball.

i used the tour edition and holy moly its AMAZING i would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent driver. im not sure i could imagine a better driver…without cheating
Answered by ixnaytim
The tour has a slightly open club face alignment. The club is good.

the X460 is ok. i used it for a round but i wasnt real impressed. but i just wasnt used to it. the big bertha is a pretty good driver too.
i would just go hit a few different ones and see what you like the best. that way you buy exactly what you want.
good luck
Question
I bought a used callaway big bertha driver a few years ago for $ 30. It has a stiff rch 96 shaft, and I put a new grip on it. I am planning on getting a new driver in the near future and was wondering if this was worth much money. The grooves are wearing down from so much use but I still hit it about 270-290 yards on a good hit.
Answered by B-Con
I bought one recently too. If you look on eBay, it seems like most of them go for about $ 20, give or take. At my local PGA Superstore they go for about $ 30.

The PGA maintains an official “trade-in value” for clubs, estimating roughly how much you could trade them in for, the Big Bertha is worth about $ 5. See here: http://valueguide.pga.com/detail-exec/brand/2675/product_type/203/model/43583/shaft_type/1/b/Callaway/p/Driver/m/Big%20Bertha. That said they tend to go by a strictly by-the-book evaluation, popular clubs usually sell for more than the book value, like I mentioned they do on eBay.

Bottom line, about $ 20. Without the headcover, about $ 15.

Question
I bought a used set of Callaway golf clubs at an on-line auction. Clubs were said to be in very good condition. Here’s what I got:

Irons are Callaway X-16 Steel Head. Included in set are 10 clubs, 3 thru lob wedge. All serial numbers match. All irons have new Golf Pride Grips. All Clubs are right handed, steel shaft, lie angle 2 degree upright, and standard length. Shafts are Dynamic gold steel shafts, Stiff flex.

Drivers are Callaway ERC Fusion. Included are Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, and 7 wood. All include head covers. Driver has 9 degrees loft. All clubs have lamkin grips, are right handed,. Shafts are RCH System 55 Firm Graphite shafts, Stiff flex.

Also included is the black Callaway Big Bertha Cart bag.

With shipping I paid $ 480. Is this a good deal?

The irons alone would have cost you almost double what you paid new. The driver new, about what you paid + you got 3 quality woods. I would think you got a terrific deal.
Answered by unoriginalnamecreator
According to PGA.com blue book value guide:
X-16s $ 192.82
X-16 Lob wedge $ 38.10
ERC Fusion driver $ 38.90
ERC Fusion Fairways $ 29.36 x 3
Total current value (without the bag) $ 357.90
The guide does not list bags.

The most important question is how do you hit your new clubs and do you like them? If you hit them well and really like them then they are a great value. If you paid $ 50.00 for the set and you hate them, then you overpaid.

Answered by SmartBompa
Excellent deal. The irons alone new were probably about $ 900. Good for you. Somebody could easily have paid $ 2000 for it all when it was new.

I agree with some of the earlier responses, that it’s really hard to judge what degree will be best for you without actually seeing your swing.

However I’ve seen some great Callaway videos online here where they explain a lot about their golf clubs and who they’re for. You should check out the link below.

  2. bigcneibauer14 says:

I would first of all get a Taylormade Burner draw. This helped me with my slicing and it hits the ball well. And i would reccomend 10.5 for the degree with a regular shaft.

  3. stingo says:

I think it’s ok, the clubs u got is probably 4 year old model. But If they are good condition they are still cheap. Just so u know a lot of golf shop wouldn’t let u trade in the old model club.

    Global Golf trade in value
    Callaway X-16 $ 115.00
Callaway ERC Fusion driver $ 25
Callaway ERC Fusion fairway $ 30*3=90
    2 wedge $ 20 *2=40

You can get $ 270 if trade them in now.

  4. idez9 says:

Sure does look like you got a good deal. I am not a big fan of Callaway but they are very good clubs. The bottomline is: What do they do for you ? Do you play better ? did you need a 2 degree upright? did you need stiff shafts? 9 degree driver is pretty sporty but again if you hit it well what else matters…..$ 480 for a full set of quality including bag……….

  5. Yahoo Moderator says:

Your deal seems to be good, price depends on quality, and demand. The 2 degree upright and the shaft specs is something most people don’t necessarily need. I don’t know if this was something you planned but the degrees and shafts might not suit your play if so, bad deal. There is many eye popping crazy deals but when you look closely things like this happen.

    But

If you are satisfied with the clubs that’s a good deal mentally
    But physically
If you tried hard enough you “May” have been able to find newer clubs for the same price.

A better idea would be next time your on the market post the question BEFORE buying
