Setting a new benchmark for Exotics and the golf industry, the XCG-3 is the first fairway wood to incorporate a no-weld, combo-brazed heavy tungsten sole and titanium cup face and body. Tungsten is two times heavier than steel allowing even more weight to be placed below the ball for superior launch characteristics. The sole weighs 126 grams and represents an astonishing 63% of the club head’s total weight. This extra weight lowers the center of gravity for industry-leading forgiveness and remarkable workability. Making the XCG-3 truly world-class, the titanium cup-face features enhanced variable face technology with a thinner outer edge for more explosive rebound. Combining the face technology with the XCG-3’s perfectly-positioned center of gravity, this XCG-3 is capable of delivering astounding shots.

Question
my boyfriend has been looking for a new 3 wood so i was thinking of buying him one for our anniversary.

i know men especially mine are particular about their clubs so was looking to get some advice.

he was looking at taylormade three wood burners with a 15degree loft but the other night when he was looking online he was searching for 13.5 degree loft

what i was wondering is…. i was searching for a TM 3 wood with 13.5 but could not find one anywhere. should i go for the 15 degree or is there a 13.5 anyone could recommend?

any help would be great thanks :D xx
i had a look on the taylormade website and the 3 wood burner didnt have the option of 13.5 degree loft :S
so would it then have to be custom made? as it would have been better to buy it as a suprise?

Answered by WilliamG
If he wants the 13.5 pitch so be it. But let him pick it out and have it custom fitted.
Answered by glfer212
its unlikely that 13.5 would be available because that would mean the factory would have to bend the head. I would say go to what ever golf shop (golf smith, golf galaxy, dick’s sporting goods, etc) and buy the 3 wood in 15 degrees and make sure that it is returnable in case he doesnt like it.
Answered by Robert
there are drivers that are 13.5 degrees. so 15 degrees would be the next choice. but you can buy the 15 degree and with the gift card thing if he doesn’t like it trade it in.
Answered by Karla
What you are looking for a a Taylormade burner TP Fairway wood. 13.5 is Tour Preferred. It will be difficult to hit so make sure you keep the receipt for him just in case.
Answered by fabio1234
i would suggest to go with the 15 degree because some drivers are 13.5 degree so you would need a little space between the driver and 3 wood
Question
I see the loft is different, but by call a 3 wood strong (13degree) vs just a 3 wood (15degree)?

I was looking for a 2 wood – are there any?

My driver has been inconsistent of late. I’ve had days where all I could hit were fairways, and days when all I could hit was something other than a fairway!

So today i tried something different and used my 3wood on all but 1 driving hole. I hit the fairway every time except for one time. I hit it about 210 yards. I took out my driver on 16 and sliced it into the trees so I just used 3 wood for last two holes and was so much more successful. Unfortunately I was about 30 yards shorter and missed GIR on those 500+ yard par 5s and was short on some par 4s. But staying out of trouble with the 3 wood felt better than fighting trouble after hitting a poor drive.

Is a 2 wood any better? Is it more like a 3 wood?
I found a Cleveland Hibore XL 2-wood and a Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Strong 3-wood. Tried both.

The 3+ wood didn’t fly as far as my current Taylor Made Burner 3 wood so the “+” didn’t make a difference.

The Hibore XL flew nice and straight and was hot off the face. More control than my 10.5 degree Cobra LV4-M driver and I probably got 20 yards more than my 3 wood.

Answered by salmonbellies16
a 2 wood would be 11 0r 12 degrees , 13 , 14 strong three wood , 15 three wood . definatly go with the 13 or 14 hit more fairways gain distance , gain accuracy , save a fortune golf balls . good luck wise choice your score will improve .
Answered by JNews
It’s hard to find a 2 wood nowadays. Not a lot of manufacturer’s make one. A lot of companys now offer a driver with a 13 degree loft. Nike does that, and I believe they call it a “lucky13.” Other companies have it too. Test one of those out to see if a 13 degree driver works.

And yes, the only real difference in a 3 wood and strong 3 wood is the 2 degree loft difference in most cases. A lot of companies call a strong 3 wood a tour spoon.

Answered by older
i guess its a personal preference—i would not get a 2 wood. theres not much difference than a 3. and i think the 3 is easier to control. keep using the 3 and practice with the driver.—u can cure a slice—-get some help cause if you keep practicing the wrong way it just makes it worse
Answered by skidrowdan
Go to all of the major manufacturers websites and look around. I bet you can find one.
Answered by GolfBlogger.Com
How about getting a driver with more loft? Most of the manufacturers offer drivers with 12 and 13 degrees of loft — the same as a strong three. More loft will generally equate to more accuracy. But the length will still offer more distance.
Question
I can hit my 3-PW perfect, but my 3 and 5 woods wont ever get loft. Help?
Answered by MacG
To get more loft out of Woods, run a busty blonde out onto the fairway.
Answered by Robert
i can’t either, but taylor has new 3 woods designed to give it lift. when my shot works with the 3 and 5 wood, hitting down on it will get it up
Answered by Nick
You could try moving the ball up a little farther in your adress. This will cause the club head to strike the ball when it is on the upward part of your swing. Also make sure your not trying to force the ball into the air. take a nice swing through the ball
Answered by adrizzock
If you can hit a 3 iron “perfect”, I find it hard to believe you can’t hit a 5 wood…..seriously though, you’re probably just overswinging; swing within yourself and don’t try to nuke it all of the time; secondly, just try moving the ball up a touch in your stance.
Answered by TONEY
Place some lead tape on bottom sole or back of club head, this has been around for many many years.
Question
They are the titleist f3 but when im gonna choose them, it only appears ssome lofts there, it appears 13,15 and 18 degress, i want a 3 and a 5 wood but i dont know which ones to choose because im not sure which are the correct lofts.
Answered by asihuraN126
A 3 wood usually has a loft between 13 and 15 degrees, and a 5 wood usually has a loft between 18 and 21 degrees. Professional golfers typically use 3 wood with 13 degrees.

**Important things to consider**
1) You should give at least 3 degrees difference between each club.
2) Set up your clubs according to proper loft separation. You should find lofts of your lowest iron/hybrid and then select proper lofts on your fairway woods.
3) If you’re a low ball hitter, then you might need more loft on fairway woods.

Because popularity of hybrid clubs these days, I think manufactures stop calling “3-wood”, “5-wood”, etc. They rather sell clubs based on degrees (loft) on clubs.

Answered by c g +1
The 18 is your 5 wood. A standard 3 wood is 15 degrees of loft. Very strong players will go with the 13 degree, or strong 3 wood, to avoid hitting the ball too high
Answered by green_lantern66
13= strong three wood (or three plus)
15= standard three wood
18= five wood (sometimes a 19* is labeled a 5 wood, as well)
Answered by Captain Tyrone
The 13 and 15 are considered 3 woods and the 18 is the 5 wood… it just depends on how aggressive you want to be with your club selection… Dont worry about 3 and 5 wood, you need to learn how far and accurate you hit each of the lofts and choose from there.

3 wd = 13

5 wd = 19 deg

  1. Mike says:

Why not hit your driver like your 3-wood?
Set up the same way and take the same swing, the only difference will be the ball will come out lower and travel longer.

    You don’t need a 2 wood.

  2. Jason G says:

Fairway woods have a lower center of gravity than they used to. Try a hybrid. I got a 2 hybrid a while ago as a substitute for my 5 wood and I get plenty of loft on it. As far as 3 wood goes, move it further up in your stance and that may help you get more loft. Another option is to use an older model 3 wood. I have an old Ping I3 3 wood that I could always get in the air.
