I just bought a set of hybrid irons…how far, on average, can I expect to hit each club?
Question
I can find charts online for woods and irons, but none for hybrid clubs. This is a full set of hybrid irons (not hybrid woods)…3 through SW
Answered by knh959
Hybrid irons aren’t really meant to give your greater distance but rather they’re meant to be more forgiving and minimize mishits. Your ball striking distance with hybrid irons should be comparable to your ball striking distance with traditional irons. How far you should be hitting them depends upon your skill level and your clubhead speed. There really isn’t an ‘average’ distance for any club. Pros can hit an 8 iron anywhere up to 170 yards or more but very few casual golfers are capable of that kind of distance. In my case, I hit my 5 iron about 150 yards. I generally add or subtract 10 yards from that distance for my other irons. (4 iron – 160, 6 iron 140 etc). You might be longer or you might be a little shorter. Just hit the range and see where you stand.
Answered by JD
Hybrids tend to hit a bit further than traditional irons; anywhere from a half to a full club. So if you have a hybrid 4 iron, you’ll probably hit it as far as you hit a traditional 3 iron.
hybrid or fairway woods, what is best for me?
Question
i am 15, hit the ball about 250, and 6 handicap
Answered by Brian C
I think that the fairway woods is more suited to you.
Answered by reporter
you should not hit fairway woods, you should be hitting irons.

Whatever’s best for your game. Get to a pro shop that will let you demo some clubs or see if some friends will let you try their clubs at the range.

That said, there’s a reason more and more golfers (including the pros on the PGA Tour) are switching to hybrids – easier to get up in the air and more forgiving, for two reasons.

a fairway wood. hybrids are more for rough and hit it shorter with more control. go with a fairway wood.
Question
I recently got a set of clubs that included two hybrid woods (24 degree and 27 degree). What are they used for? Are they in place of a 2 or 3 iron?
Answered by rrygolf
Your 24 and 27 degree hybrids are in place of your long irons (probably 4, 5 irons). Golf manufactures started coming out with these clubs because they are so much easier to hit. And they really are. I just picked up a 21degree Titleist hybrid and put it in place of my 3 iron. These will really help your game.
Answered by Brian M
A hybrid Metal is a club between a iron and a metal. They are much easier to hit because of the lower center of gravity that gets the ball more easily airborne with less club head velocity. They typically range from 16 thru 29 degrees of loft and depending on the shaft length. These loft replace irons as follows;
16 degrees = 2 iron
19 degrees = 3 iron
22 degrees = 4 iron
25 degrees = 5 iron

anything above this is typically a utility or rescue club designed to hit out of the rough, fairway bunker or bad lie. Many hybids outperform the equivalent distance of those irons depending on the golfer, club head speed and lie.

Answered by normalguy0221
rrygolf is right . You hit the hybrids way more consistently than you do your irons. Its that easy.
Question
I carry just hybrids instead of the regular 3,4, and 5 woods
Answered by green_lantern66
It’s all about loft spacing, regardless if it’s hybrids, fairway woods, or irons. Anthony Kim, for example, carries no FW woods- just one hybrid. Some people carry a 3 and 5 wood, plus a 3 and 4 hybrid… but the lofts are more equivalent to irons. It probably isn’t a good idea to carry a 3,4 and 5 wood- distance gapping would be an issue.

If you want 4 hybrids with lofts of 15, 18, 21 and 24 (for example) that’s just fine. If you want a 15* 3 wood, an 18* 5 wood, 19* 3 hybrid, and 23* 4 hybrid, that’s OK too. Just make sure you don’t have any clubs with the same or close (within a degree or two) of each other, and you’ll be fine.

Answered by idahoGOLF_3
yes-beacuse hybrids do not replace woods, they replace irons. i would suggest getting a 3 and 4 hybrid and taking you 3 and 4 irons out of your bag. the reason for this being the hybrids are easier to hit and they get higher up in the air.
