Question
It is an old putter, a Titleist Dead Center SP 202. And what other auctions are there than ebay?
Answered by Boo1980
have you tried looking up the company that makes it? try there if you havent.
Question
I want to buy my husband a new driver and putter for his birthday, but I know nothing about golf brands except that I’ve heard the names of some like Titleist, Taylormade, etc. What should I look for? He enjoys playing, but doesn’t play professionally or anything.
Thanks for all the kind words. You all should tell him he’s lucky, LOL!

I’m not looking for top of the line clubs. He plays for fun and he has complained the last couple times we went that he needs a new driver and putter. Great answers so far!

I think he uses either Taylormade or Titleist (hence why I know those two brand names).

Answered by charlotte
The best make is, in my opinion, Ping. They are one of the most popular brands. However, it varies with each person. Tiger Woods, the world champion, uses Nike.
You could perhaps sneak into a conversation the question of what his favourite brands are. Perhaps ask him about golf and what all the brands are about.
Or even you could sneak a look at his golf bag and see what brands he already uses, and then buy him the newer edition. (For example, if he uses Taylor Made, you could research and see if TM are bringing a new driver out – but check he doesnt have it!)

Otherwise, I’d recommend Ping, Callaway, or Nike as your best bet.

Take your husband to a country club pro shop. Let him pick out the clubs. You don’t want to be in the position of accepting blame because he can’t hit the darn things.

Dear Wonderful Wife,

Your husband would be best serves if you purchased a gift certificate to a state of the art golf retail store. Drivers are very expensive, up to $ 600 and buying a driver which is not built to your husbands playing goals is a waste of money. Modern shops have computer aided fitting for loft, shaft type including flex, bend point, torque, length and more. On the computer the assesment includes launch angle and spin rate which can be quantified for ideal results. Spending large sums for a club without proper fitting is akin to buying a size 9 shoe. Your husband may need an eight or size eleven. Do both of yourselves a favor and get properly fitted. Then you can never blame the arrow it’s the indian! Putters are the most personal of clubs in a set. From a simple blade to radical heads with adjustable weights, lengths for belly putters and even longer to the upper torso. Expect to start at $ 135 to $ 350 for a top of the line putter. Again, putters come in a variety of shapes and lengths. Try to find a shop with a putting coral where your husband can hit a few putts or even a shop on course where he can demo a club on a real practice putting green. Call around to see if there is a demo day near your home. Your husband can then see a variety of clubs and select what best fits his “eye”. Then get fitted so he does not have to adapt to the club but the club is made exactly for him. He’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness even though it’s a certificate.

Do not consider counterfeit or knock-off clubs assembled in the garage of a small supposed “clubmaker”. However, there are clubmakers who have capabilities to custom fit a player but be sure they have credentials from the PCS, Professional Clubmakers Society or similar group. Be certain they have computer aided fitting or you are wasting your money. If you are on a budget consider a certificate for the proper fitting then check the web like e-bay for the club(s). The fitting is about $ 50 to $ 75 and can be credited when buying from the fitter.
One tip, a driver head is relatively static, the shaft does the work. Better to have a Ferrari (motor), and a VW body. Last resort for putters. A heel-toe weighted Ping Anser style. Patent has expired and everyone copies the general design even Scotty Cameron @ $ 350-$ 500 per putter.

Your husband is a lucky man to have such a wonderful wife as you.

There is no doubt about it; Titleist makes the best clubs. They have the absolute best and newest technology, and tons of pros on tour use them. Trust me: GO WITH TITLEIST. To get your husband a driver and putter, you’ll want to go with Titleist’s 909 D series for a driver and a Titleist Scotty Cameron putter.

What is the number one FAIRWAY WOODS and IRONS on TOUR in 2008?
Question
According to Titleist they are number one in the WEDGES and PUTTERS department in terms or quantity in 2008.

And we all know that TaylorMade is the number one most used on tour when it comes to DRIVERS.

But now my question is… who is number one when it comes to FAIRWAY WOODS and IRONS?

Answered by ixnaytim
Fairway woods are dominated by Taylormade as well. Titleis is up there, but not on top. Taylormade has the most irons on tour as well. The r7 line is used by over 200 pga players and 100 nationwiders. The TM RAC MB’s are used by Sergio.

    Hey Jana,

I’m agreeing with the guys that say gift certificate or take him down to the pro shop and get him to choose a driver and putter.

And also the ones that say what a wonderful wife you are ;o)

Thing is with golf, you’ll have your ‘big name brands’ etc but a lot of the time, they’re paying pros to use their clubs – that’s how they get their names. And if the pro doesn’t like the club, the brand makes special clubs just for the pro so that their name is kept in the frame.

Same for golfballs – some say Titleist is only #1 because they’re paying all the sponsorship to the pros. Whereas Srixon or Bridgestone actually make the best balls… (though this is only some people’s opinion).

Anyway, digressing a little there. Basically, every golfer is different and the only way you know if a golf club suits you is if you can try it out.

This is especially the case when it comes to a driver and a putter. Particularly the putter where the feel needs to be 100% right.

So take him down the pro shop or be a bit sneaky and see if you can find out if he’s been looking at or trying any clubs in particular…

    Good luck!

  2. Jason G says:

Oh wow! That’s nice you want to do this for your husband. However, to answer this question to your liking, you needed to mention how good a player your husband is or at least mention the driver and putter he has now and the loft of the driver. Hopefully you have an idea of what I mean by that(the number on the bottom of the driver). Your best bet is to go to the local pro shop and have them show you different drivers and putters or even better, get him a gift certificate to that store and have him pick it out.

  3. Chris says:

I recommand you TaylorMade r9 driver and Titleist putter, I have bought some clubs from golfshopping18.com, they are really of great items. You can have a look at there. It’s very nice of you to be a wife. good luck.

  4. TJayDog says:

driver: Taylormade will never disappoint you. Drivers are very competetive in the golf market as it is golfers’ interest to search for drivers that will carry the ball further.

putters: Scotty Cameron, ping, Odyssey are the top brands.

  5. Donald W says:

Ping or Taylormade Driver and Seemore Putter. They have a alignment system that is second to none. Zach Johnson uses a Seemore putter and He is sponsored by Titleist and Scotty Cameron makes the putters for them.
