Question
I bought a set of irons a year ago but didn’t get fitted by a golf pro. Just wondered if getting fitted after the fact is a possibility.
Answered by MWalz9
Yes you can. You can have the shafts cut to the proper length for you depending on your height. You also can have the tilt of the club face(this is called offset) set for your exact swing.
Answered by chimkychink
depends on the clubs.
ping can adjust the lie by about 3 degrees either way.
a good fitter should be able to adjust the lie by a small amount, but it really depends on the make of the club, some are easier than others. otherwise you can always get the clubs re-shafted or re-gripped which makes a big difference.
sorry its a bit vague, but simply put they can be adjusted slightly but not by huge amounts.
if your clubs are brand new you maybe better off getting fitted then if neccessary taking your clubs back for a refund/exchange
if you cut the shafts down to make them shorter it can affect the stiffness of the shaft.
Answered by Spartan Golfer
It depends:

If you need to get them shorter, you can get them cut down. But you obviously can’t make it longer after you already have them.

The lie angle can also be adgusted now, they can do it at most golf shops.

You can also always get new grips which you should do every year or so.

Answered by zudmelrose
You can cut shafts down or extend them. The lie angle can be adjusted. However, you can not change shaft stiffness. If you have a regular flex and your fitter says you need stiff you either have to reshaft them or go buy new. Reshafting a set of irons will run about the same as buying new.

I would not go get fitted unless I was willing to live with being told I really need to get new clubs. If I was told I needed different clubs and did not not buy them, every time I played with what I was told did not fit me and had a mis hit I would blame the equipment. Every mistake would be due to the “wrong” equipment even when it was my mechanics that were screwed up.

I think being told I have the “wrong” equipment would take a lot of the pleasure away from playing.

Answered by KCbabe_xo
Usually but, they can’t do everything that you could have done when you originally bought the clubs. They can adjust the length and possibly a couple other things. But, they can’t really change to much with the shaft… as that they are the ones when you bought them and its too late to change them. They might be able to do it if you are willing to possibly get new shafts. It depends on the clubs and the place you go to get fitted. The whole purpose of being fitted is to find clubs that “fit your swing”. So, it might kinda hard to do it since you already purchased them and have been hitting them for about a year.
I wouldn’t really bother unless its bothering you or if you are getting serious about your golf game. If you are hitting the ball like crap.. then you might want to but it might not be the clubs.. might be your swing.
People on here will tell you yes or no but its your decision if you want to listen to the yes people or the no people.

Good Luck!!!

Question
I currently have a set of Top Flite Stratas clubs.

There is a good price on Callaway R5 irons (about $ 400 canadian), and I am thinking of buying them.

Have people found a huge difference in their games when they bought the elite clubs? Or is it a brand name thing??

Will I notice a huge improvement??

Answered by dukalink6000
It helps, but a lot depends on the person using them. All the equipment in the world cannot help if you haven’t mastered the basic of the game.
Answered by Chris
I play with some of my Dad’s Callaway drivers, and you can really reach out and touch someone with those babies. Really expensive, but I think the drivers are worth the price.
Answered by Scott D
Not a huge difference.
Here’s an example, my brother who has Callaways is an “okay” golfer. I am a beginner and have the Walmart type brand. When we both started out, I was better than him using my Walmart brand. So, Callaways did not save his game. However, as he got better, he beat me.
I don’t see Callaways shaving 5-10 strokes from your game. However, it might help you “a little bit”. For example, the stiffness of the shaft might be better on a Callaway than a Walmart brand. The head might be more responsive. The weight transfer may be better. However, the composition of the club may be the same.
Just take this as an example, the drug Advil has the main ingredient of Naproxen. I could go out and buy the generic brand as long as its main ingredient was also Naproxen.
It’s the brand name you’re paying for.
However, keep this in mind. The “brand name” stuff is sometimes better than the “cheapys”. For example, I prefer a Nike or Adidas shoe over ones you find in Walmart or Target because I prefer the comforability and wear of the name brands. Plus, Nikes and Adidas’s are lighter than the Walmart kinds.
That’s the difference between name brand and generic.
View the small differences between them. Gauge the pros and cons.
If they are so minor, than a generic brand is okay.

It’s the player more than the club.
Answered by Golfguy
Maybe. I currently own an Adams GT2 driver ($ 80), that I hit a slight fade with. It is 9 degrees, and I hit about 275 average drive. I once teed up with a Callaway X460. It was about 20 yards shorter, but was slightly straighter.
Question
.If you did get them fitted did they require any fine tuning after wards. Did they react the same on the course as they did in the fitting session.
Answered by Tom on Tour
Yes the set did require adjustments after I took possession of them. The initial lie angle was too flat and the loft was weak by one degree. Adjusted in the van and the next day the tour tech went out on the range with me. High soft draw, hmmm interesting? I’ll take a closed stance….straight hmmm “maybe it’s these new shoes” I quipped. Let me go strong here… ewwww slice. I said “boy I can sure work these clubs even if I don’t want to.” ” Im on the tee in one hour what can you do in that time?” I asked . Dave smiled and said ” I’ve performed Magic but your asking for a miracle, take your old set out or gamble on this set it’s your decision.” Four hours later I was three under for the first round. My caddie then reminded me that my attitude is my swing and I have a poor attitude when practicing. When Im playing he told me that I am a totally different person, relaxed, friendly. It wasn’t the arrow it was the Indian. ‘
Question
I want to learn how to do it myself, I dont want to send it away and have someone else do it.

If you live here in the United States you could try Golfsmith , I know they have classes on clubmaking on the weekends I have attended one it is very informative I also think they might have classes on how to repair and refinish clubs , and if they don;t I am sure they know who does.

Hope That Helps.

  1. wahiv4 says:

They can cut the length of the clubs to fit your height, and it is even possible to lengthen your clubs a little bit (it’s not recommended to do this for more than about an inch). You can also get the lie angle adjusted fairly easily by most golf club repair shops (PING golf clubs, however, are best left sent back to the company). You can buy small metal strips to change the swing weight of your club.

  2. dorwin29 says:

Absolutely. Just take them to any pro shop and tell them. It shouldn’t cost to much.

  3. Conch B says:

you can do whatever you want INCLUDING extending them…they just put a tip at the end of the shaft…golfsmith and do all that stuff they way you want it

  4. tarheelsjordan says:

it depends. i’ve never played with top flite clubs so i dont know their quality but if they aren’t very good and you have mastered the basics of the game you will but if either of the above is not true you wont notice an improvement.
