Question
I’m changing to a new set of irons soon. I’ve been using the r7 draw irons for a few years and my coach suggested I get a new set of irons with a muscle back blade, not a cavity back. I’m 15 and have a pretty low handicap so i was wondering which sets of Taylor Made irons I should get?
Answered by RUALST
Burner Plus Irons are the best right now
Answered by Robert
Burner Plus Irons are almost super-game improvement irons. You could fit a Chihuahua in the cavity. The best Taylor Made irons are the R9 TP irons or the Burner irons.
If you want a really good set of muscleback blades, then look into Mizuno irons.

Answered by max o
the only muscle back blades they make are the rac mb and rac mb tp. they are both excellent irons. i think they are the best clubs TM makes. The tp set is over 1000 bucks but a good set of used mb’s is 3 or 4 hundred
Question
Top Flight XL clubs for $ 100? The Taylor Made irons can be found here: http://www.globalgolf.com/product/golfclub/-/pid–1001951/iron-set/taylor-made/burner-mid.aspx?gd=3
I know Taylor Made clubs are better but I have no idea how old these are and if that even really matters.

i had the top flight ones and they worked fine. defiantly worth the 100. but you can get a new set of taylormade burner irons for 400-500 and they should last you a really long time and you stay up to date. i have the burner irons now and i love them. they are perfect. also the r7 irons are even cheaper and they are also very good. i would look into a new set but if you like them top flight clubs for a 100 bucks you WOULDN’T be getting ripped off.

I would say go with Taylor Made. The look a couple years old, but taylor made is a very durable brand. It says they’re very good condition, but that would be like buying Top Flites in excellent condition. I bought brand new taylor made burners for 400 two years ago and Im looking to refresh my set with either Hippos or newer Taylors. Try Rockbottomgolf.com, you can problably find a top of the line set for 150 or so.

Never buy a club you can’t hit first . Case in Point : I almost bought the callaway x20′s (2 years ago) off the rack at Academy sports. But something told me to hit them first so i went down the road to the local range had them tape up an 8 iron of the x’s and also the cobra fp2′s (same price point) I found the callaways felt like hitting rocks verses the fp’s smooth feeling, it felt great hitting them . Callaway is a fantastic brand , but the cobra worked better for me . Plus i got more clubs for the same money. Anywho the point is : hit before u buy , you might shed some preconcieved notions . If you buy ones that you really don’t love you will eventually buy some u do love . Its cheaper to hit before you buy. The best club money can buy …………..is the one that when you adress the ball , you know the next time you adress it will be with a putter! You can buy confidence if you invest in the ones you hit well.
Question
i just bought a set of taylor made R7′s and there is no 3 iron!! i use this club alot but really like the clubs so i stil purchased them. can any1 also tel me the loft on the AW club? what does this stand for, obv its the sand wedge
Answered by bridad36
Some iron sets just simply don’t come with 3 irons. One reason is because hybrids are becoming more and more popular. My set of Titleist AP2′s didn’t come with a 3 iron but I have a 3 hybrid. And an approach wedge is sometimes known as a gap wedge or 52 degree.
Answered by golfnut
They suggest you buy a 3-hybrid
Answered by kowill
there is no 3 iron, but you can buy some other one to replace it!

They want to make more money. You will need a 3 hybrid or 5 wood to replace the 3 iron that are missing. AW is 51* loft, it’s same with gap wedge. Some call it approach, others call it gap(between pitch and sand).
Answered by unoriginalnamecreator
When you buy a set of irons, you typically have a choice between 3-PW, or 4-SW. If you wanted the 3-PW, you should have kept looking at other stores. You can still purchase a 3 iron by itself, if you want one. Although, most people will recommend a hybrid in its place. Personally, I like my 3 iron and have no plans on switching it for a hybrid anytime soon.
The AW is a gap wedge, not a sand wedge. The AW has a loft of 50 degrees while the Sand wedge is 55.

Question
I’m a mid handicapper and usually use a cavity back iron to help me get the ball in the air. Right now I’m using last year’s r7 xd’s and was wondering if the new r7 cgb max was the longest iron as far as distance that Taylor Made has? I can hit the xd’s ok, but I’m looking for an iron set that I can get the 5 and 6 iron up in the air a little easier, and of course I’m looking to add a bit more distance. Can anyone give me some advice?
Answered by daniel s
instead of paying over $ 1000 spend a $ 50 bucks on a lesson from a local pro you will get much more benefit than buying new irons he will show how it hit it longer and straighter i bet buy the 10 th ball you hit with him you will be longer and straighter and higher .good luck (ex pga pro currently 2.4 handicap )

As others have stated, few people use long irons anymore. More and more players, even professionals, are changing to hybrids for these shots. Also, many people are carrying three or four wedges rather than more long clubs. If you can drive the ball 250 or more, there is rarely a need for a 3-iron and if your drives are typically less than 250 yeards, you probably could hit the hybrids better anyway.
It is possible to order the 3-iron on-line to complete your set, if you want one. Whether you purchase the 3-PW or the 4-GW, you are still getting 8 clubs, so what does it matter which ones you have to purchase separately?
The trend is toward 4-GW in all iron sets with separately purchased hybrids being used for the longer distances, so 3-irons are becoming obsolete. The several websites I checked offer the 3-iron for your set as well as the other wedges (Lob) for $ 49.99 plus tax and shipping, whioch is the same price per club as the basic set (eight clubs for $ 399=$ 50 each).
The AW is the Approach (or gap) wedge to close the distance interval between the pitching wedge and sand wedge. In the old days, people used a pitching wedge at about 46* loft and a sand wedge with about 56* loft. This was too great a disparity in distance, so a lot of people use a gap wedge for the shots in between.
According to the TaylorMade website, the lofts on their stock r7 wedges that come with your set are PW=44*, AW=49*, SW=54*,and LW =59*. If these do not fit your preferences, buy third party wedges from Cleveland, Titleist Vokey or one of the other leading manufactuers and choose the exact lofts and bounce who want. The most important thing is to maintain the loft difference between your irons at the same interval for better distance control.
