This is the new club manufacturers are puching as the stroke saving club for golfers that have trouble controlling 3, 4, and 5 irons.

You get the distance of a long iron but the ease of hitiing and higher ball flight of a wood.

These are the top 5 as recommended by a golf magazine.
I have an Adams Idea and have taken my 3 iron out of the bag.
It is also good for chipping around the greens if you choke up as it gets the ball rolling quickly.

Answered by Stan B
The word “utility” is used to denote multiple uses,. They’re also called “hybrids” because they combine iron shafts and “wood”-like or “metal”-like heads. Utility clubs are great for hitting distance shots from fairway bunkers, roughs, and bad lies. They’re also good for punching out with some power from under trees or bushes. They come in various degrees for distance. e.g. a 21 degree utility club is equivalent to a 3 iron but is easier to hit and has a higher ball flight so even though it doesn’t have as much roll it goes the same distance.
Answered by benny
It is a hybrid.
Answered by Greg A
They are more commonly referred to as hybrids. They are a combination of a wood and an iron. They can replace a 3 iron 4iron and 5 wood
Answered by Doug
Some people refer to Hybirds this way. they are the new half wood half iron that take the place of long irons and are much easier to hit. Clubs deisgined to help get the ball out of bad lies or other special purposes are called utility clubs.
Question
Im am thinking of buying a Cleveland utility club online for a great price. Its just that it is pre owned and i want to know what condition they come in. It says-used but looks like new. What should i expect?
I’m 14 and shot a 47 today and I played terrible
Answered by christian
Buying pre owned golf clubs depends on the making and condition, if you say the look good then go for it and good luck!=D
best shots ive made in a 9 hole course is 49! and im 14!
Answered by legalbgl
I bought my cleveland halo used on line and it was in great condition. But the condition is subjective and you should just know the reputation of your seller and the return policy if your not happy
Answered by Jason G
Are there pictures of the item? Does the item have a playability guarantee or a return policy? I wouldn’t buy a pre-owned item unless there are pictures of the item. As long as it’s a reputable site, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Golf clubs are a personal thing which must give you confidence. They should have the proper swing weight, shaft flex so that you can feel the head of the club, lie angle so that the club sits properly on the ground as you address the ball . You are better off going to a good sporting goods store or club pro shop and actually seeing and feeling the club rather than buying sight unseen. This may cost a dollar or two extra, but you know what you are buying.
Question
In my golf league last week the girl i was paired with thats all she hit!!! It just seems to me that golf is all about learning to hit your clubs, not finding a fad to make it easier!! I use my traditional set
and i htink its unfair seeing girls like this increase thier score through technology and not practice. BTW i still beat the Bitch!
Golflect im talking about changing the style of clubs alltogether..you know not using irons. of course i realize there has been improvements to golfing through technology. i guess my question like my golf shot went over your head! =)
Answered by johncondo2001
your right
Answered by Fish
You are right
Answered by Rob W
You beat her, not because of her clubs but because you are better. Years ago, way before you I am sure, we all said that the “new” large head drivers would never make it, well they are still around. My father uses almost all woods, except for his 9-SW. Should I tell him he has to use irons?
I myself am thinking of grabbing an utility club or two to replace my long irons, and don’t forget that even the pros use utility clubs.
Keep up the good work, nothing better than a girl who golfs, as long as it is not on my course.
Answered by Golflectual
You should immediately start playing with persimmon woods, small knife-like blade irons, a Bullseye putter, and a gutta-percha ball.

My guess is that you probably wouldn’t break 150.

edit: Your question was silly. Equipment is evolving and will continue to evolve. Hybrids are simply an improvement (for some) over standard irons; much the same as the equipment you’re playing today is a major improvement over the type I mentioned above. If you’re not convinced, go hit a persimmon wood sometime and compare it with your 460cc driver.

Answered by bertino p
I have never tried them, but I do plan to scrap my 2 iron for a hybrid 2 iron. I dont like it when people have all utility clubs unless they are seniors, but if it helps them have more fun. O well!
Question
hey, im looking for a trustworthy website to buy golf clubs online. im really looking for a ping rapture red dot gap(utility) wedge. i have looked every where and cant find anything! so if you have a great website that you buy your golf clubs at or have my club im looking for please please please provide a link and i will best answer you:)
okay so ping raptures have been discontinued but many websites still sell them and they are on ebay so please no more answers saying they are discontinued!:) gracias!
Answered by Rian W
The Ping Rapture is a discontinued club. It was replaced with the K15 line.
Answered by aaron s
Only buy from authorized dealers such as D*icks Sporting Goods, Golfsmith, and Golf Galaxy. Try those. Golf Smith would probably have it since they seem to have everything (even discontinued models)
Answered by Garrett Schneider
Don’t. Go to a golf store and try some clubs out and get fitted for your clubs. It will make a big difference.
Answered by Solomon Grundy
You answered your own question with the additional details. Ebay is your answer. 12 of the 14 clubs I currently have in my bag were purchased on ebay.

I agree 100%! That isn’t right! People have been using irons for hundreds of years! Why change now? I tried a hybrid before and it had an awfull feeling in it. I’m better with long irons than with hybrids.

  2. Father K says:

Sorry, but I think the answer about the persimmon woods and the gutta-percha ball is quite valid. If the technology is available, and the club is designed within the limits of the rules of golf…then by all means – use them.

I am a senior golfer (50) – and my entire new set is hybrids. Cleveland Hi-Bore “irons” Believe me – I spent a lot of my golfing years hitting blades – and I did quite well with them. I’ve been as low as a nine-handicap.

I am currently a 13.2 – and I love these hybrids. And as for “no practice” – I live at the range and the practice putting greens (when I’m not in church!)

Life is too short to play clubs that don’t fit your game.

  3. swingman258 says:

i agree with you that ppl who just use hybrids have an advantage over ppl who use blades

i grew up hitting blades and love them
i play with ppl who do nothing but rely on hybrids to get them out of trouble

i would shoot at least 8 strokes better with hybrid clubs because they have so much more forgiveness

i can see ppl who have one or two hybrids (like a 3-4) because that can replace the 5-wood and 7-wood, and im okay with that

but when ppl start using 6,7, etc hybrids i see it as an immediate advantage

i choose to hit blades because they are real clubs!

  4. Spartan Golfer says:

No, technology is going to keep developing.

  5. Sister Margaret says:

I joined the electric and cable clubs because they are on utility poles. I ususally try to stay away from the water club because their members are weird and their dues are really high.

  6. take off eh says:

the men using utility clubs also use viagra. give em a break

  7. Reid M says:

golf and computers… technology just goes too fast in both but you can’t stop it– hybrids are so useful in so many shots that you are foolish if you don’t have one in the bag. the Adams Insight is the best right now so go out and invest!

  8. Craiginhio says:

I was asked to voice an opinion on these hybrid clubs a few months back at my local course – so I took my 3 iron along to the range and borrowed the equivalent hybrid…

I hit alternate shots with both clubs, hundreds of balls, and personally I felt the results were obvious…

On the off center hits the hybrid was certainly more forgiving, but when struck sweetly I got better ball flight and probably 15-20 yards more from my 3 iron….

So the question is this – do you strike the ball well enough to know forgiveness isn’t something you need all that often?? If not then a hybrid is worth looking at…

But certainly not a bag full of them, that truly is a waste of money and time!

    Hope that helps….

btw – the three iron is still my preferred club :-)

  9. ericvana says:

Yes I am sick of the utility clubs…I believe they cheapen the game and they make it much easier to make a bad player look good. New technology is replacing skill in upcoming players.
