Question
I’m not married to a specific style of putter. I’m just wondering if anyone has really had luck with the clone putters? Any real noticable differences between the clone putters and the brand names? Anyone ever have really bad luck and get a dud?
Answered by glasstin10
Clone putters are excellent. I’VE had tons of luck with it and I’ve won 3 tournaments with it. I hope my answer helped.
Answered by Jesus G
The key to a good putter does not come from how expensive the putter is but the confidence you build at address with your putter. Go out and find a few good putters at a shop and try them. take a look on how they stack up in appearance, and which one is more comfortable. I have an Odyssey putter that came with a grip that was just awful in terms of feel. The grip make me feel like the putter could be twisted at impact. The tweak that changed the feel for me was a change in grip because I felt that the overall features of the stick were good enough for me. My advise is look out for a model you like and judge on all factor and then compare in terms of price with the clones
Answered by Vegas Matt
There’s very little that can go wrong in the manufacturing of a putter. Any putter that’s decently built is a good putter as long as you are making putts, regardless of the brand name stamped on it.
Question
Just wondering if any stood out above the rest.

Why would you choose a clone? Check Ebay, or your local store for a good used one. Clones are always going to be made of inferior materials as well as shoddy workmanship. You do get what you pay for.

Tiger Shark maybe. but i dont know if they are a clone brand, but if your thinking about getting one, i wouldnt, just go out and buy an 80 dollar ping or a used one from golf galaxy or something
Answered by sno f
that is for you to decide for your self. everyone is different. i don’t use clones. get the real thing or what works for you.

I believe that what is the best is subjective. What is good for one person is not necessarily good for another. What I can say is that I have been playing clone golf clubs for 20 years. Some are better than others, but all are certainly worth the 75% off or more for what you would pay for the comparable name brand. The clubs I have now are Callaway x20 clone irons and I LOVE em. I tried a set of the name brand Callaway x20s ($ 799) at a local pro shop driving range and fell in love with the feel. Went online and bought the custom clones for $ 179 with shipping and playing the best golf of my life (high 70s low 80s). Also, I laugh at my golf buddies that pull out there $ 200 to $ 400 drivers and I can out drive them most of the time with my $ 69 clone. Same with golf balls. They will pay $ 20 to $ 40 for a dozen balls when I will pick up a dozen logo overruns or AAA used of the same ball for $ 8-$ 15. If you can break the stigma of mine is more expensive than yours so I am a better golfer, then you will save a lot of money and even be able to afford to change clubs if you so choose and play more rounds of golf (which isn’t cheap either) without breaking the bank. Don’t be afraid to use a clone!!!

Question
I’m not a good golfer by any means, but I was out on the course with a friend who is a scratch golfer and he made comment that my putter sounded like crap. He putted with it and said it was not so forgiving. He recommended an Odyssey putter. That’s all well and fine, however, I don’t play enough to justify spending that kind of jack. Can anyone please recommend a clone?
Answered by green_lantern66
You can go for a “Back Draft” putter by Tour Edge. It’s $ 40. You can also go to websites like Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy and look for component putters.

An example from Golfsmith:

putter head (Snake Eyes Viper- high MOI mallet putter)- $ 9.96 (on clearance)

putter shaft- True Temper double bend shaft- $ 8.99

grip- Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Control- $ 4.96

In components, you’d spend $ 24. You could assemble them yourself for no charge or get it done by a professional for a pretty low fee.

a really cheap and good Quality brand that’s forgiving is pinemeadows

I bought a used Ping on e-bay. You can get reasonably cheap & good condition clubs there. Ping makes top of the line putters too!
There is no need for a cheap knock-off when you can afford the real thing.

Did you check Rock Bottom? Not sure how much $ $ $ you have to work with, but they’ve got a few Odyssey’s for $ 89 – $ 139 or so: http://search.rockbottomgolf.com/search.php?page=1&query=golf&refine=y&Category1=Putters&sort_by_field=Saleprice:DESC

You can always find free shipping or % off coupons for that site, too.

Question
Sooo…Pretty much I am looking to get a new set of golf clubs but don’t feel like spending two grand on a nice set. Rite now I have a cheap set of Walter Hagen clubs that cost about $ 200 for a driver, 3 wood, 6-SW irons, 3 hybrids, a putter and a bag. Clearly these clubs are very cheap and poor quality. With price in mind i started to look for some cheap clubs and stumbled across some Callaway Diablo clubs that were very inexpensive, but I eventually I realized that they were knock offs. However, I am still considering getting these clubs even knowing they are fakes. The set includes a driver, 3 and 5 wood, 3-SW irons, a putter, and a bag for around $ 400. Although they are fake, the quality of the clubs is most likely better than my current set. I’m not an avid golfer and just get out there for fun, so I am wondering, should I get these knock off golf clubs considering my old clubs are probably lesser in quality? Also, I am not looking to buy another cheap set of clubs, used clubs, or clones. Thanks.
Answered by Scott
What makes you think they’ll be better quality? Inferior materials (seconds, rejects), no concern to alignment, inconsistent lie angles…the jokers that make knockoffs of top brands hope that you’ll reason the way you are doing.

A good set of new, name brand irons can be had for $ 350 and a good driver for a few dollars more.

i was reading something and it says that there such thing as clone clubs. and if i’m spending money i want the real thing. please help

Answered by Eduardo C
Chances are if it sounds too good to be true, it’s not real.
Answered by Bob
Well the driver is real, and the other clubs are probably real, but walter hagen golf clubs are in my opinion trash, so if you want the good driver, and so-so fairway woods and irons, go for it, but i recommend going to a demo day at your local driving range, or going to your nearest golf smith/golf galaxy to see what clubs suit you best
Answered by Taylor
The driver is real, but the others are clones.
Answered by Bryan
The Driver is real. The T3 irons and woods are made by Walter Hagen. This brand is exclusively sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy. They are not “clone” clubs but are just crappy clubs. For a beginner, they are not a bad set, but if you are trying to improve your scores at all, look around some more.
Answered by Stephen
As said above they are not clones justnot quality clubs. The nike SQ is a fairly good club if your into nike.

the people who tell you that clones are inferior, are just ignorant. 96% of all club heads are made in china (name brands and clones). many of the companies that make brand names, also make clones. it is cheaper to continue to use the same materials, than to change them. a respectable club maker will make you a quality club for a better price.
