Question
im debating between waiting and getting the r11 3 wood (not tp) and buying last years r9 tp 3 wood. the r11 would be about an extra hundred bucks and im just not sure if it is worth it or not. advice? thanks !
Answered by TryHardNinja
lets see the r9 tp is a pretty solid 3 wood, really good, considering you could get it alot cheaper than the r11, which isnt going to likely be a whole lot better, i would say go with the r9 tp. its a very solid club, and doesnt seem like the r11 is going to be a huge improvement, nothing outstandingly new or unique, exept for the white head, so if they were priced the same, r11, just cause its going to be a little better because its newer, but because its going to cost you so much more i would stick with the r9 tp, its a very good club still, not like its gonna be outdated by the r11. hope this helped

3 woods are tough to hit. I kill the 9 wood, but I’m learning to hit the 3 wood
Answered by Nick
If you play loads of golf and truly feel like you need the newest technology available then go with the r11. But honestly the r9 will do fine. I play an r9 currently and its a great club. I tried out the r11 and there’s no major differences. Biggest difference is that you can adjust the face a few more ways, and maybe just a little bit more difference, but nothing crazy and honestly, probably not worth $ 100.

Good 3w’s are hard to find. Honestly, of the two you’re talking about, you could get the r9 and have a solid club while saving yourself a bunch of cash. You really shouldn’t limit yourself, though… you never know what might be best for you by keeping such a small list. Not only that, but you should be fitted for the new stick. Length (not everyone needs a 43″ or more 3w), shaft flex, grip size and loft (not everyone needs 15*… some need more, some less, some are good with “standard”). Find all these things out, and don’t be afraid of older models, as well- technology hasn’t changed much in the last 5-6 years.
Answered by Mario B
may you should try Ping i15 3w. But any of wood over 100-150 bucks is something really god.
Question
Answered by Golf Central
Hi there, I personally would go for the r11. I had a r7, have an r9 right now and soon upgrading to the r11. I have tried the Nike Red Victory, and struggled to hit it. I thought it was nowhere near as forgiving as my r9. I do not know if it was because I was trying to hit a different club, but have always fell in love with the r-series of Taylormade.
Answered by Jason G
Demo days are going on as I answer your question. Go to your local pro shop this weekend and try either one. I’m not sure which manufacturer is going to be at your local pro shop this weekend, but the Nike rep will be at one of my local pro shops and as I always say, “In Nike I Trust.” Your best bet is to demo either one and see which one feels best to you.
Answered by John F
Go to a golf galaxy near you if you have one close. They have simulators where you can hit each club and determine which one performs better. I just did this with the R11 and the Titleist driver from last year – the 910. I was able to hit the R11 about 40 yards further on average. Of course I paid the extra $ $ for the R11.
Answered by JD
Go to Golfsmith and have them fit you. It’s free, and if you don’t like the club you can return it for full credit and just get the other one. I don’t think there’s another company who has that kind of offer and you really can’t lose.
Answered by Jason Spruce
Go to the demo and try it personally
Best regards
Question
Hi! I am looking to buy a new 3-wood for the 2011 golf season. I currently have a taylormade r7 3 wood. I love this club, but it is getting old and I hear some rattling inside the shaft. The clubs that I am most interested in buying are either the taylormade r9 and r11 3-woods (depending on which is better), or the titleist 910 Fd (most of my bag is titleist). Which one would be the better choice. Thanks for your help!
Answered by J.forgzzz
My brother is a very good golfer and has the r9 3 wood which he loves. He says that the weight and shaft changing is very handy.
Answered by adrizzock
If you’re leaning towards the TM offerings, look into the Burner Superfast….I have last year’s version and it’s my favorite club in the bag. It’s extremely long and very forgiving! The new white out version looks pretty sweet….may look into an upgrade!
Answered by Bobby
I saw just reshaft your r7, I think the 3 wood is one of the most important clubs and you have to love it because everyone has those days were the driver gets a little wild or you have a tight fairway and the 3 wood has to come through in the clutch. I want a new 3 wood as well but I have a Taylormade Burner 07 3 wood that I have literally never hit a bad shot with. It goes dead straight every time so as much as I want a fancy new 3 wood, ol’ reliable is staying in the bag. Good luck, the 910 is very pretty so if you are still wanting a new one go with that IMO.
Answered by Brian
wait for the new r11 from taylormade out in march….has white head n is supposed to be great.

I have the Taylormade 3 wood and love it. I’ve been playing golf for many years and this was my best club purchase.

Good Luck

Question
Hi! I am going to get a new 3 wood. Even though my old r7 is my favorite club, it is getting old and I need a stiff shaft. I was interested in either the r9, r11, or the titleist 910f. Which one is the best buy? Thanks!

P.S. My bag is all titleist except for 2 of my wedges and my 3-wood.

I have a friend that shoots in the 70s with some old cobra baffler blades from the mid 90s…a Titielist driver from 1999….its not the equipment…
Answered by green_lantern66
If it’s your “favorite cub”, why change it? If you got a new head of the same loft and face angle, with the same shaft and grip, you won’t see ANY performance difference. That’s a proven fact (by the likes of Tom Wishon, Jeff Sheets, etc.). Loft and swing speed are the only factors for distance; swing plane and face angle effect accuracy. Changing to a “new and shiny” club won’t guarantee you’ll get anything great.

The r7 was/is a very, very good club. It isn’t really that old, either. Club technology hasn’t changed that much… especially not in the “long and straight” as some advertisements like to claim. Now, you have two choices:

1. buy a brand new club. Even though it isn’t really a NEED, this is a free country, so you can do as you please.

2. reshaft your r7. If you truly need a stiff flex (there are no flex standards between the manufacturers), this can easily be accomplished with the help of a clubfitter/builder.

Whichever route you choose, see the clubfitter. Don’t just go out and buy whatever- people have opinions and brand bias, but what I think is best probably won’t be what’s best for you. The fitter can help guide you, whichever route you choose, towards getting you into a properly-fitted club that will optimize your swing.

I really like Taylormade and both were in the Golf digest hotlist in the gold section. I would have to get the Taylormade.
Answered by ARMY VETERAN
you dont need to spend hundreds of dollars on a new set of woods or even 200 on a new 3 wood. I have tried the r7 and a knock off of that wood and i play the knock off. The r7 is ok but the name on the club means nothing. Try different 3 woods and dont be affraid to play with an off brand, it is all about feel and how comfortable that club feels in your hands and how it feels when you swing it. my 3 and 4 woods are an off brand, my lw and sw are tommy armour845, pw, 9,8,7,6 are tziods and my 5,4,3 are mizuno mp67s’ my driver is an old calloway 454 that a friend had in his bag and didnt like, i saw him at the range one day and i hit it 3 times and all 3 shots hit the back fence of our range so i told him i was taking it, he said ” go ahead i dont like it anyway” i gave him 50 bucks for that driver and i have been hitting it for about 6 years now, not because of the name on it but because it just felt good when i would swing it.
nancy Lopez had 4 or 5 different brands in her bag and you know all about her stats.
I can only speak for myself in this matter and i have been playing for 25 years and my index is .70….others might have a different view on this matter .
Answered by Jerry Thunder
If it’s your favorite club, why don’t you just get it re-shafted with a stiff shaft?

  1. Zack says:

I wouldn’t get any of those woods. I would get the burner superfast or burner superlaunch, but that is just my preference.

  2. Hedy says:

R11 might be a nice choice. Just have a try. My friends had owned the R11 driver which gave him more distance. And he suggest me to have a try. Okay awesome!

  3. Robert says:

i have the taylor super fast, stupid name but i can get the ball launch off the fairway about 65% of my shots, but look for one that gives you confidence so every time you pull the club out you don’t say gee i hate to have to hit this club

  4. Knapper says:

I know lots of people who buy the best thing every time they come out with something new and the only thing that lowers , is their bank account . Practice is the only thing that will make you a better golfer.

  5. adrizzock says:

Sounds pretty good, but the real question is how do you hit ‘em?

  6. Mellida Adam says:

    8 i choose

  7. Andrew says:

    0. looks like you just went in and bought everything taylormade from your pro shop. rac wedges and the monza suck, who needs a 4 iron or an approach wedge, and also taylormade woods and irons are horsesht

  8. chrisguy says:

4/10 but it doesn’t really matter if you can’t hit them!

Btw: Andrew doesn’t like any golf club manufacturer apparently…
