Do you have less wedges and more woods? No hybrids? More hybrids?
“What you got in that bag?”
Goog, buddy, that’s not what I was asking. I was just curious is all. Of course great players can play with carp clubs and shoot par.
I just wanted to know if folks were carrying more long clubs or more short clubs.

your basic setup of clubs would be a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and then 3 iron through sasand wedgeand putter making 13 clubs. however i recommend to all abilities of golfers to get rid of either the 3 or 5 wood and then put a gap wedge and lob wedge in the bag.. so to answer your question more wedges is whats preferred and recommended to all golfers..
Well, as of next week when my new irons arrive I will have:
Cleveland HyBore XL 10.5 driver
Taylor Made Burner 3W
Cleveland HALO 2i, 3i, and 4i
Callaway Big Bertha 2006 irons 4-PW and SW(just ordered on ebay, replacing my willson firesticks)
Mitsubisha putter (its a knock off of a mizuno putter from several years back, will be replaced next year with probably a sabertooth.)
debating not using my 4 iron (I have a 4 hybrid instead) and adding a gap or A wedge instead.
I have a bunch of junk clubs.
I wish I had some Callaway Clubs, but they are so expensive!
I accidentally bought a “Lady Hope” putter from a garage sale. It looked nice and had a good grip to it, but I didn’t realize it was a girly club until I got home.
This is a good question! I think that your set make-up should depend upon what type of course or courses you usually play. I belong to a country club where the greens are surrounded by bunkers and catch areas if you miss the greens and they are somewhat raised. You need to be able to hit a high shot that stops when it hits the greens. You can’t hit a run up shot and get on for most holes.
I worked with a Master PGA golf professional about two years ago to devise the proper set make up, along with getting new clubs. He was familiar with my course and did launch monitor testings on my long irons. Though I loved to hit long irons and hit them well, we found out that my 2-4 irons only had 15 yards difference in carry between them. Also, you can’t stop long irons by a front pin placement. So he ended up recommending hybrids. Also, over the years, lofts have changed on clubs to the strong side. We were losing the differences in distance gaps you need for short/wedge clubs. So, all in all…I now have 4 woods/hybrids; irons 5-9, and 4 wedges (PW, Gap, SW and Lob Wedge). That with putter makes 14 clubs.
I think if you analyze where you play the most; determine what type of shots you need to hit most, etc., you can decide what set make up will fit your game and course the best.
Hope this helps!
mizuno mp 600
tm r580 3 fw
just upgraded my ben hogan apex edge pros to the new mizuno mp 62(3-pw)
mizuno wedge 56 opps forgot to mention my lw
scotty cameron putter
I usually go with Driver, 3 wood, and 5 wood. 3 Iron – PW plus a gap wedge and a sand wedge and of course putter. But sometimes I will take either the 3 or 5 wood out and add another wedge depending on the course I am playing.
My 14 are as follows:
Driver-Taylor Made R5
3W – TM R5
2 hybrid – Magique 17 degree
3 hybrid – Hogan 21 degree
4-PW – TM RAC OS
GW – Titleist Vokey 52 degree
SW – Titleist Vokey 56 degree
Putter – Odyssey 2 ball
I had considered losing the 4 iron and adding another hybrid but I started playing it more and hit it well. If you hit hybrids great and long irons great sometimes, add a hybrid. You can always switch back.
I’ve been contemplating the long vs short for awhile now too. Right now I have:
Nike Sumo2 Tour
3 wood from my beginner set
3-PW Nike Forged CCI Irons
52* Nike SV Tour GW
56* & 60* Walmart Wedges
Nike Ignite 004 Putter
I’m replacing all of my beginner clubs slowly due to lack of funds, but have been considering going to a 3 wedge bag with a PW, 52* GW and 58* SW/LW. I was reading the 3 wedge bag leads to less indecision about clubs. I always struggle deciding on using my 56 or my 60. 58 may be the best of both…
R7 425 tp : driver
v-steel : 3 wood
Top flite : 5 wood
r7 3-4 : hybrid
5-9 r7 : Iron set

$ 500 is fair trade for all… You don’t lose and he gets a great set!!!
