the Odyssey White Hot XG #9 is the putter he used at the 2007 Players Championship but he went to a Prototype this week according to the commentators at this week’s tournament

He uses an Odyssey XG9 PM (Phil Mickelson) Prototype which he helped design. You can’t buy a replica of his, but you can buy the XG9 which is very similar, just a different colour, the retail ones are silver his is more like a dark bronze.

It’s an Odyssey prototype, based off the old Wilson 8802 model. It has a White Hot XG insert and a White Hot Tour (black and yellow) grip, a dark finish (not many Odyssey putters have that) and a custom sightline ground on top. He also has a strip of lead tape behind the face. It’s not available in retail. For what it’s worth, his hybrid is another Frankenstein design that I won’t get into, but is easily found with a web search (though not found in stores).

Sure you can buy it. Prototype in the Industry means only more dollars. It means nothing else. They will put Tour Proto on almost anything to make you believe it’s off the van. Most people fall for it unless you’re actually in the Industry.

By-the-way, to use what he’s using, you have to be somewhat of a decent golfer. The MOI or for you, sweetspot, is much smaller than the average putter on the market now. It’s MOI is right around 2800. Although that’s a lot more than something of the same nature as the 8802 or 8813 but that’s technology.

A lot of the tour reps sell on Ebay to make a quick buck so your best bet is there. If you see one at your local store, it’s somewhat the same but of course it’s not.

Chipping: both are outstanding but Phil is just a bit better
Putting: Tiger by far, it isn’t even disputable.

Golf rankings rates Tiger as #1 and Phil #2 for a reason.

IMO off the tee Tiger is a little more consistent than Phil but when Phil’s drives are on he’s as good as Tiger.

Michelson is a little better with his wedges.

Tiger is the better putter. (Remember the old saying – drive for show, putt for doe.)
