It’s worse with women’s clubs. Basically, a “woman’s” club is the same as a “man’s” club, only given a pretty houndstooth paint scheme. They’re the same weight, lofts, face angles, etc. Some companies are “realizing” that not every woman has the same specs; therefore, some clubs are being made lighter with higher lofts… but two things are not being considered:
1. equipment doesn’t care who’s using it
2. EVERYONE, be they male, female, young, old, handicapped, or stout, have varying needs that can’t be addressed with a “one size fits all” attitude.
You want “straight and long”? So does everyone else. Coincidentally, that’s what they sell: all drivers have been maxed out technologically since 2006. Anything they do today is a tweak, nothing more. Being that as it may, you have to work on you first- if you don’t have proper mechanics, no golf club is going to save you. A slice is still a slice, even if you just spent $ 400 on the “latest and greatest” that promised to make you longer and straighter.
There is one fallback, though… a proper fitting. It isn’t a cure-all, just the same as no new driver is a magic wand, but a properly fitted club will put you in the best place to mitigate you weaknesses and (hopefully) enhance your strengths. Get properly fitted (for length, loft, face angle, shaft flex, grip size, total weight and swing weight), regardless what brand driver you buy, then work on yourself to ensure you do hit it long and straight.
Get someone to give you advice on the proper length according to your height.
Good luck
ps. Good to see women are getting into golf.
It is light, well balanced and very very user friendly.
It rewards a good shot and makes a bad drive look really good.
Good luck – you are about to have a complete change of life. Enjoy.
Remember the two most important shots on a golf hole–the first and the last. Just get the ball in the fairway on your tee shot. You need a calculator every time you’re not.
Most high handicappers/beginners (such as yourself) cannot hit a driver, no matter how badly they want to. Drivers are especially dangerous in the hands of high-handicappers because many view distance as the quality they most want to have off the tee. So they spend several hundred dollars on an oversized titanium driver that most of the time will only put them farther off the fairway, not farther down the fairway.
You need to own a driver – just practice with it on the driving range, and leave it at home when you hit the course.
As for the driver, you want a driver that is VERY forgiving on mishits. GolfDigest.com listed: Nike SQ Sumo2 5900, Cleveland hiBore XLS, and the Callaway Big Bertha as the most forgiving drivers on the market.
I hope this helps.

If your swing speed is slow make sure you’re getting the appropriate women’s shaft. If you have difficulty lifting the ball, make sure your clubhead has a loft of at least 12 degrees.
Visit a golf superstore near you to demo drivers above.
taylormade burner is really good
what ever feels right for you – test it on the range, but i recommend the R11 by taylormade….

I work for a clubfitter and here is the way to do it. Get yourself fitted. A fitting will tell you what length, stiffness, and loft you should get to maximize your driver to you. As for a specific head I dont have anything for there but to hit several and get what you like, its the shaft that is most important.
9 vs 10.5 degrees difference is in the distance and difficulty, 9 will go farther, but much harder to hit straight since the club face is so un-forgiving.
I agree with the other answers, if the #2 hybrid works for you, there’s nothing that says you have to hit a driver. From your question’s info, sounds like you either don’t have the swing speed to launch the ball or have some difficulties in swinging a long club such as a driver, so go with the hybrid, it’s more forgiving and you’ll enjoy better shots with it.
A 9 degree driver will have a more penetrating ball flight, and give you more roll. The 10.5 will carry further, with less roll. It really depends on playing conditions, but the 10.5 would be my suggestion for you.
9 degree driver are for pros.
If you hit you’re best shot with a hybrid use that =]
