Question
i just bought a 34 inch taylormade monza vicino spider putter and i am 5 foot 3 inches is my putter too long?
Answered by green_lantern66
Hard to say… do you feel uncomfortable standing over the ball? If so, it may be that your putter’s too long. Try this: grab a yardstick and get into a comfortable putting stance. Where is the measurement? That’s your ideal putter length.

That’s the thing about putting: it’s such a slow, controlled and short swing that alot of the factors in, say, your iron play aren’t as important. Lie angle, shaft flex, etc… as long as you get a length that is comfortable, the correct grip size (made from a material that feels good to you) and a head weight that feels “right” to you (some like heavy, some don’t), you’re all set.

Answered by rbkgolfshop
The only way to know is to set your eyes directly above the ball and hold the putter. If you hold it and it is too long, you can always cut it shorter. Just ask the professional clubmaker to do it.

It’s all about personal preference. I’m six foot and use a 35 inch, but I do so because that’s what felt good to me. If you putt well with it at its current length then I wouldn’t change it. However, if you feel that the putter just isn’t quite right then maybe go to a local shop and try out a 33″ just to see if you like the length better. That’s why belly putters and long putters have made a comeback, some people just feel more comfortable with them. So if it feels right keep it, there isn’t a specific “right” length for your putter, its whatever works for your game.
if you’re 5’3″ odds are a 34 inch putter is too long. It truely depends on how you like to stand when you putt and what type of putter you are. I bend a little more to get my eyes over the ball. I’m 5’7″ and use a 33″ putter. You should make sure that wherever you stand and however your hands are on the club, that you are gripping the GRIP of the club and not the shaft. I see so many people gripping down on the club, almost to the metal and having 3-4 ” of grip on the butt end of the shaft. you’re robbing yourself of feel and distance control.

Mitchell, it is all a matter of inches. If the feel of the putter is to cramped then slide your hands down a little on the grip and practice putting. When you reach the right height then mark the top part of the grip that is empty and you will save a lot of money replacing the putter.

Question
whats this putter called and what are the pros and cons
what dose belly put mean ,pro’s and cons please
thaks
Answered by Tee Dub
Its called a belly putter because the end of the grip rests almost in your bellybutton. its supposed to give you more control, but I think it looks and sounds really stupid
Answered by Sarah N
I would suggest that you go to a pro-shop and test out the belly-putter. Although it is called a belly-putter, it is supposed to be placed right at your chest, so that it has a sturdy place to create a pendulum motion.

The Pros: It makes you play good golf

The Cons: It makes you play bad golf

Well, it depends on your swing style, the speed at which you rush the ball, the angle at impact, vibration in your arms, the weight of the clubhead & shaft, and some other factors.

Don’t use one if you try it and you putt badly. Do use one if you putt consistently well with it.

Question
I want to get him a new putter for Christmas. He is 6’1″ with long legs. He is very good. Not quite professional, but still really good. So does any one have suggestions? Any good or bad experiences with your putter?
Answered by Jmad
Odessey 2 ball putter is a very popular putter right now – little expensive though (about $ 160).
Answered by IdiotWind
Do NOT get him a putter. A putter is a very personal club, and he may be afraid or at least unwilling to offend you by taking it back for one that fits him better. Many things are taken into account when getting a new putter. The length, and the lie, the feel, don’t spoil it for him, let him get his own. Best thing you can do, is to get him a gift cert to a golf shop for a putter and let him pick it out.
Answered by Spartan Golfer
For his height, I would recommend a 36 inch putter.

If he is that good, he would LOVE a Scotty Cameron. They are classic putters with new technology. Most of the tour pros use them. Go to: http://www.scottycameron.com/products/putters/default.asp

It shows the different putters that Scotty makes.

Or get an Odyssey putter. It is the #1 putter in golf, they have some for the best tour pros and also for the lousy weekend golfer. They have made giant breakthroughs in putter technology.

Go to: http://www.odysseygolf.com/en.PRODUCTS.html

It shows and explains you all their different putters. He’ll probably like the white hot xg in a classic blade shape.

My favorite is the Tri-Ball Srt putter. It has three balls and it is really easy to line up and hit straight.

Putters are such personal clubs, I would give him a $ 200 gift certificate to an online golf shop and let him pick. There are so many types…

  1. John Soares says:

Way too long. I have a 34 inch putter and I’m 5’9. Look at at 28 or 29 inch putter.

  2. Friend X says:

If it feels uncomfortable to you, I’d get it shortened to 33” at least. Possibly shorter, whatever feels good to you. Putting is all about feel. If you are comfortable with 34 inches, keep it, but 34 is typically long for 5’3. But like I said, it’s all about feel and comfort.
