Question
I purchased a set of new Cleveland CMM irons and wedges and have been using them for about a year. I clean them with water after every round and have noticed that they have slowly started to rust. Is this a design feature to create more spin, or are mine starting to wear away? I golf at most 2 times per week and
Answered by ryan n
you left it in the warter for too long
Answered by wickedskateboarding
because they were made in japan
Answered by Sportscrazy101
well you first of all shouldnt be cleaning them with water

they are made of metal and just like a bike will start to rust over time

if you are going to clean them with water do it every once in a while or y ou can go to a sporting goods store and buy some cleaner

the same thing happened to me and i had to buy new clubs

so i suggest to stop with the water and find a new cleaning substance

Answered by Three Putt
There are wedges designed to rust and create spin. I have never heard of an entire set designed to rust.

CMM is relatively new from Cleveland. It is possible that they do rust early. My previous experience with Cleveland irons is that they don’t rust. Generally, I think forged irons do rust easier.

Answered by PK
I play with Cleveland clubs as well. My TA6 irons in 3-PW have no rust at all. The gap wedge and SW are rusty but they are supposed to because it enhances the surface for better spin. You may want to check with the store you purchased from if the entire iron set is rusting.
Question
I have Cleveland CG2 irons and love them, all except the pitching wedge. the 9 iron is 42* and the pitching wedge is 46. Now i am in the market to buy a new wedge set. I like the CG12. But they don’t have a 51 degree that i had, only a 52 and 50 for gap wedges. So, if i buy a 48,52,56, and 60 and still have my CG2 irons with the 9 iron at 42, is 42-48 too big of a gap?
Answered by thefistofdoom
It’s not necessarily too big, but of course it wouldn’t match up with your other gaps and I know that doesn’t feel right to me either. Do they offer a 54*? Then you could go 48,54,60 and keep the 6* gap. Good luck.
Answered by Ohio_Golfer34
I think you are looking at this in a very technical way and I think that’s good to a point.

I have a solution here that you may not have thought of…..you could simply grip down an inch on your nine iron and you could make the full swing and the ball will go shorter.

If you don’t like to play golf this way, then what I would recommend is to have the 48 bent to 46…it shouldn’t effect the bounce enough for you to notice it, then you can get the 50 gapper…..

OR … you can have your current wedges refinished and re-grooved….I believe golfworks does this….or golfsmith….one of the two…..

Good luck!

Answered by toughnottobeacynic
You don’t have club dilemma. You’re concerned about the number on the sole of the club. That’s exactly what sales and marketing wanted to happen. Congratulations!! Send money.
Answered by gizmodiamond
You could get your 9 & PW bent to what you want & buy a SW 56 , GW 52 LW 60 or 64 . Just bend them to what you want or learn how to 1/2 ,3/4 swing .other clubs . I have 46, 52 ,56 , 64 .they work great.
Answered by tarheelsjordan
im tryin to figure out about the same thing, just have the 48 bent strong

Hopefully if you own these clubs you know enough about them (and the game of golf) to know they are good clubs.

Cleveland drivers are great, top notch. Not a big fan of Odyssey putters, but many good golfers like them.

  1. rjsandpas says:

it may be because you left them in the rain then didn’t clean them afterword. or you may have played in the rain without cleaning them.

You might try soaking them in hot to warm dish soap and water for five minutes then use a wire brush to take out the rust.

Also, clean your clubs with SOAP and WATER every 7 to 10 rounds.

  2. Tim the Enchanter says:

Those clubs shouldn’t be rusting unless you’ve been mistreating them. I clean my clubs most every round with a copper wire brush and dish soap in my kitchen sink since there will be times where I can’t play for a month or more.
Just make sure to use a clean towel to dry them off thoroughly before putting them up. Also, try to store them in a dry place because humidity will also make your irons rust.

  3. mattmtv says:

Frist off, there are sets of irons that rust including Cleveland RTG irons. If you aren’t sure if your irons are meant to rust I would take them back to a golf store and ask them. They may still be under some type of warranty or they may have better ideas for you.

    Hope this helped.

  4. Birdman72 says:

same thing happened to me…contrary to what some people have said you do not meed to stop cleaning them with water. Just make sure you don’t let them soak too long…no more than 2 minutes in the water for each club. Because yours are already rusted you may want to stop using water because they will rust even faster. Another tip make sure you don’t let your clubs soak in water past the ferrule(little black ring) because then you may lose your clubhead on a wild swing.

  5. Mike says:

    Don’t worry about it.
Write down the distances you hit the clubs.
You probably don’t need a gap wedge. An easy PW is much easier to hit than a GW.
    Example:
    60* around green only
    56* 0-90
    47* 90-115
    42* (9 iron) 115-135
    8 iron 135-150

    Good luck!

  6. Ian_the_man says:

too many wedges. You should get one wedge and perfect it. Too many people have 2, 3 or more wedges in their bag and they can’t hit any of them!

Irons (2-SW except PW)- Brosnans ‘V-Line’. Thae club fave has a V on it. I think so you know when you address the ball where the centre of the club face is in relation to the ball. Good for begginers like me.

PW- Lost the Brosnan V line one that I had but picked up a Brosnan at a Golf Store for $ 15

Putter- Its an Arnold Palmer 302 putter. Green head with rubber insert. Best club I have and only cost me $ 25 brand new! Good putter for my skill level
