Question
This is for a male -
Answered by Smitty
Well, Mary…
If you’re a woman & been trying “ladies” golf clubs,
I have 2 suggestions:
1. Try a “mens” club. They’re 1 to 1-1/2 inches longer than “ladies” clubs.
2. Have a pro-shop FIT you to a custom built set of clubs.
Answered by TanTom
Unfortunately, being 6’4″ tall puts you in a special category where you need special clubs. Off the shelf doesn’t work for you with golf clubs but then again you know this already now don’t you?
Answered by Jason G
2 things. You can go to the Nike Golf website and do their custom fitting system or you can go to your local pro shop and have it done. I would really consider this being that you’re 6’4″. Obviously the one online would be free, but if you cannot figure it out, you may want to have someone do it for you. I’ve looked at it and it seems fairly simple. I’m 5’7″ so it wasn’t a necessity for me to do. I can buy off the rack. One of the pro shops where I live charges 50 bucks to do it which isn’t overly expensive, but I don’t know about where you live. It couldn’t be too much of a difference.
Answered by Simone
The length of the shafts in your clubs is dependent on the length of your arms and your height. At the pro shop they have a ruler that measures the distance from the crease of your wrist to the floor, and shows what your shaft length should be. Just because you are taller than average does not mean that your shafts should be longer. It depends on your arm length also. So go get measured, it take about a half minute. All shafts can be lengthened or shortened a few inches. Also, get your grip size checked, you may need larger diameter grips. If your clubs are altered for length, they will need new grips, so you might as well get that done at the same time.

A lot of the scottys on ebay are fake, but you will still pay premium prices because the buyers are unaware of this. I suggest just buying an odyssey or another good yet cheaper brand.

If the clubs are the right size for you, it’s a great deal. I can’t comment on their quality. Judge that for yourself.

Spaulding Executives are pretty outdated clubs. Been around about 25 years now. When new, they ised to cost around $ 300 with the woods. However, if your just starting out in the sport and don’t want to invest too much, it isn’t a bad set of irons to learn with…….
Answered by XUSAAAgent
At $ 20, who cares. Worse case you got some rock crushers to smacks stuff into the woods.
Answered by crazyhumans
They are beginner clubs or standard clubs. If you are starting out or just playing for fun, yes, it is a good deal.
Answered by Sean J
No matter what brand they are, 20 bucks is a good price for a basic iron set and a putter. Even used clubs are usually at least 10 bucks each. Just make sure they are the right gender, right for you hand(right-handed or lefty) and not falling apart.

Question
Does anybody have any suggestions. I have demoed them both and i a cant decide
Answered by Bill P
Cleveland clubs have that rubberish vibration and have limited feel. I owned the CG reds (Last year’s tour model). Hated them, went back to my old Titleist then to Mizuno MP 52′s and have improved my game vastly. You can pick a spot and go for it and you can find that spot with the Mizuno irons. Dart throwers.. The 22′s are cheap looking to me and callaway is last in line with CG technology. Good luck, birdies and pars….
Answered by Tim
i definitely suggest the x22 tours, callaway has a name brand you can trust, so does Cleveland and i like their wedges alot but the irons dont pick up the ball as much if you know what i mean, im getting about 150-210 off of my x22 tours (4 iron) so i hope this was helpful
Answered by Michael W
I have owned the Clevelands also and they just don’t have that launch effect that Callaways have. I own the Callaway Fusions and they are the best clubs I have ever hit. I hit my 3 iron 225 granted I am only 19 so I’m limber and strong. I recommend the Callaways and I don’t know if you are set on that because you like those two or because of money, but I think you should look at www.3balls.com there “like new” clubs look brand new! I promise you won’t be disappointed! You will probably share that website with you friends.
definitely the callaways though man.
Question
i want to buy either the cbra SZ or the Cleveland CG gold iron set. any suggestions would be great, thank you.
Answered by phillyballler
Clevland CG gold is good. The Cobra is ok. Callaway x20′s are the best
Answered by chrisguy
NO club is “the best”…

If I were you I would go to a shop and try them out first…

Answered by legalbgl
Have you tested them out? Which do you like better? Which feel more comfortable? Which give you a better visible line? That is the one you should buy,not what some stranger says on the internet.
Answered by TheAceofClubs
They are both ok, but you can save a lot of money with a good quality clone club. Take some time to check the products available at http://www.TheAceofClubs.com
Answered by aaron s
I personally like Cobra better so i would recommend their products (they make quality golf equipment) but you should definitely go to a golf shop and try them both and some others and see which ones work for you.
Question
so i have a choice between these golf clubs :ping g10 iron sets, taylormade r7 or burners, callaway x-20 or x-22, nike slingshots or nike sumo, cobra fp 2, or cleveland cg gold iron set.
Answered by California Golf Freak
well it all depends on how you hit them, but if I had to chose, I would go for the g10s, or the r7 tps
Answered by Leo
1st Choice: Callaway X-22
2nd Choice: Taylor Made R7
3rd Choice: Ping G10

My ranking is based on ease of use based on my personal experience.

Callaway has such a wide sweet spot that it compensates for most mishits – without giving up too much distance. While the same may be said about Cleveland, I find Callaway’s ‘feel’ to be superior. It can be used with ease by golfers of any handicap.

Taylor Made Nike and Cobra would be excellent for novice and scratch players while Ping would probably be best for beginners to novice level.

Personally, I prefer blades but I’ve been playing for more than 30 years now… :)

Answered by drchoimd
personally i will take callaway, but get what you like after hitting some balls. When I bought my callaway, I went to the range and hit all irons including 4 and 5 irons straight and so excited but this only lasted about 30 min. It started to slice and hook, I score about the same using my $ 200 wilson staff irons compared to callaway…
so yes new irons seems to be better but not a whole lots….
Answered by Mark
Hello,

I like the callaway best. But it depends on how you want to hit the ball and your personal situation. I would suggest to try them out in a store.

Answered by dammit_jer
I went to sports authority and used the R7 and Burner Tour in the simulator and only swung the 7 iron as that is my go-to club. I swing 85mph with a 7 iron and with both clubs my avg distance was 178.5 yards. The simulators used at sports authority does not measure trajectory unfortunately but everything is measured. I did not have a single dead center hit on the R7 but I hit almost every single shot within 2 degrees of the flag at 180 yards. The Burner Tour, has a 10 gram heavier shaft and I hit almost everything dead center on the face and hit all of them 5 degrees left of the pin but still 178 yards. The clubs both make great impact but the R7 is more forgiving and a little lighter than the Burner Tour and right now about $ 100 cheaper for the same performance value in my opinion. I like the X-22 as well but am partial to Taylormade. Not to mention, right now, if price has anything to do with your choice, the R7 is last years model and going off the shelves at almost 1/2 prices so worth every penny.

#1- R7
#2- X22
#3- Burner Tour
#4…Rest are all toss up to me.

Question
I am a senior in high school on the varsity golf team. I am looking to upgrade my set and usually shoot in the low 80s.

Cleveland CG7 Irons
Answered by David
Between those two options I would go with the CG7 Irons, but you should probably get the tour spec over the full cavity back to help you work the ball left or right but still have the forgiveness of the cavity back.

Nike’s. Cause I love it. Dont cha?
Answered by green_lantern66
There’s more to look at than brand name (both are reputable names). You can throw out grooves, as well. Cleveland may promote their “zip” grooves, but everyone before the new groove rule’s implementation had grooves very similar to one another- to the point that it became negligible.

You could play either model sucessfully, provided it’s properly fit to you. What it boils down to is feel and sound. If you can, hit test both. There’s no “best”, it’s about personal preference. If you hit one and it makes a sound that just doesn’t sit well with you (you’ll know it when you experience it), don’t buy that model. Make sure you do the test with your gamer ball, or else you’re just gathering erroneous data.

The most important part is to get properly fit. Regardless which model you choose, if they’re too long (or short) or the lie angle’s are too flat (or upright), or the grip’s are too small (or large), the swing weight’s too head-heavy (or too grip-heavy), or the shaft flex isn’t what you need, you’re never going to get the most out of the sticks- that leads to a loss of confidence in the new gear and (worse yet) buyer’s remorse. You could make compensations with your swing, but why? That’ll just lead to bad habits. Do yourself a favor and get properly fitted.

Answered by Jason G
If I had to choose, I would go with the Victory Reds, but I like Nike products so I’d choose them over any other product. Both clubs are in the same category, so if you want to figure out which one is best for you, Dick’s Sporting Goods has both sets(the one in my town does anyway). You can hit either set and decide for yourself.

Question
Answered by Mizer
A hybrid has a smaller clubhead than a fairway wood. The hybrid is a combination of a long iron & a wood. The hybrid is meant to replace the hard-to-hit long irons.
For example: A #3 hybrid, it will have approximately the same length shaft and loft as a 3-iron that it’s intended to replace.
Answered by paulcondo
I guess a hybrid club is more of an rescue club where you need a long shot but have a bad lie
Answered by blakemrtn
Well, a fairway wood is kind of like a smaller version of your driver. A hybrid is a (kinda) new trend in golf that is supposed to replace you low irons, 2,3,4,5 etc. So in theory a #3 Hybrid should replace your three iron and most people say hybrids are much easier hit.
Answered by feeferz
a hybrid is a combination of irons and woods, and a fairway wood is just a wood.

i would recommend getting a hybrid because they are SOOOO much easier to hit than an iron or wood. two combined is MUCH easier =D

Question
I hit hybrid clubs really well, but only carry one in my bag, a 25 degree. On the other hand, I find it tough to reach the long par 5′s in two with a fairway wood because it seems like theres too much room for error. Will i still be able to get the same distance with the same degree hybrid rather than a fairway metal?
Answered by wbaker777
If struck properly….the answer is yes. However……if you are having trouble with fairway woods….remember the 15-16 degree Hybrid will be longer (shaft length) than your 25*. I’d advise a lesson or 2 to correct your fairway wood swing deficiencies before dumping big bucks on new equipment that you may have the same problem with.
Answered by no idea?

Answered by Thejangle
The answer to this question is tricky; in-fact you are kind of comparing apples to oranges. In addition, as you are well aware (because of how golf is), there are many other factors that will be important to understand when disecting this question. Let me explain:
Generally speaking, (and i do mean generally) the answer to your question would be yes. Long i-ron’s, even struck well, typically produce a low, boring ball flight due to a shallow face and high center of gravity. Fairway woods on the other hand, well struck, typically produce a higher less boring (more spin) ball flight due to a deep face and low center of gravity. Which brings us to the hybrid club: The hybrid was invented to be a mix between the two (this might sound obvious, stay with me). hybrids have a relativly shallow face (compared to your 3-4 wood, which i am assuming your 15-16 degree is), but still maintain a low center of gravity, which produces a higher trajectory (than a long iron) with a more boring ball flight. Still with me?
Now lets talk MOI or (moment of inertia): Because your 3-4 wood is larger (more cc’s) it naturally has a higher MOI, which technically speaking should be slightly longer (that is if both are well struck in constant conditions). However, if you are hitting both clubs side by side into a head wind, the trajectory and spin caused by your fairway wood will cause the ball to get caught up in the wind, or balloon, where as a hybrid (well struck) will loose little distance due to its boring (or knuckle ball as i call it) ball flight.
So over all here would be my recomendation: get the hybrid, golf is a game of consistency, and i can assure you a hybrid will provide that for you. I also mentioned earlier that the answer to your question (generally speaking) was yes, and then denoted that side by side in constant conditions your fairway wood would be longer, here’s why:
The difference in distance should be minimal (and remember we are basing this on well struck shots), and if you arn’t consistent with your fairway wood, the consistency you will pick up by using the hybrid will equate to more distance overall. People always stress that distance revolves around club head speed, well as a golfer with a club head speed of 106, i am still a firm believer that distance has more to do with contact than club head speed; and i also believe a hybrid will provide better quality shots for you. One more benifet of adding another hybrid: Because of the high trajectory produced by most hybrid clubs, while maintaining little to no spin, you will find the ball landing a lot softer (or sticking more greens!) As opposed to a fairway wood, which produces more spin (often top-spin) making it less predictable around the greens.
I hope this helps (I hope your still awake, you would never guess golf is my passion huh)

And just one more thing, if you are going to add another hybrid to your bag, and you are currently accustom to hitting a 25 degree, i wouldn’t recomend adding a 15-16 degree hybrid. Maybe go with a 19-20, because remember no matter how much technology we have, the formula stays true Less pitch + Longer shaft = Harder to hit. I mean the lowest hybrid I carry is 20 degrees, which i hit 220, and it lands as soft as a butterfly with sore feet.
Hope this helps!

Answered by smierzy
The answer from “thejangl” was ALMOST right on. But there is one point that he is COMPLETELY incorrect on, which is his assertion that fwy woods produce topspin. EVERY GOLF CLUB PRODUCES SOME AMOUNT OF BACKSPIN AND/OR SIDESPIN WHEN STRUCK. The amount of spin created is due to type of SHAFT, not the actual head.
Answered by emt_dragon339
possilby but a hybrid will have a lower flight path than fairway wood
Question
Can anyone explain the difference between the two? I like the Cobra Baffler, which I believe is a baffler but I’d like to make sure I understand what I’m buying 1st.
Answered by INeedANap
This site gives some good info on hybrids:

For help in selecting a club, see this site:

From Wikipedia:
Woods are played for long shots from the tee or fairway, and occasionally rough, while irons are for precision shots from fairways as well as from the rough. A new type of wood known as a “hybrid” combines the straight-hitting characteristics of irons with the easy-to-hit-in-the-air characteristics of higher-lofted woods. A “hybrid” is often used for long shots from difficult rough. Hybrids are also used by players who have a difficult time getting the ball airborne with long irons.

Answered by tiffnjerm
Hybrids are designed similar to an iron, only with a bit more beef behind it. They are easier to hit than a long iron, and are much more versatile. Also, hybrids are a tad heavier than a fairway wood, making it easier to get up in the air. I recently switched from a 3-wood to a hybrid, and am incredibly satisfied with the results. I highly recommend the hybrids. Bafflers are very good hybrid clubs. I purchased a Mizuno hybrid on ebay for $ 50, brand new. Bafflers are a little more expensive, because of name-brand. Regardless of the brand, I think you will be happy with the Hybrid.
Answered by dayfmtx
A hybrid is designed to swing and connect with the ease of a wood but gain elevation better than a wood. A hybrid is now generally put in a set of clubs where the 2 , 3 & sometimes 4 irons previously existed. An example of this would be like in a fairway trap, you would never want to use an iron in a fairway bunker over a wood because the blade tends to get caught in the sand because it has no bounce, however the depth of the hybrid gives you protection from the blade effect in sand or other difficult grassy lies. Other than the example given above, it is simply personal preference, it is widely believed that a hybrid allows a higher handicap golfer a higher percentage opportunity for a shot that will not hurt one’s score.
Answered by Nick A
its discontinued by this point. but hybrid is a mix of an iron and a fairway wood. a fairway wood is longer.
Answered by alexa dion
Hybrid irons and woods primarily differ in the standard shaft lengths. The standard length of a hybrid wood is the same as the corresponding fairway wood, however the loft of a hybrid is higher than its equivelant wood. For example, the loft of a typical fairway 3 wood is 15 degrees whereas the loft of a similar hybrid wood is 18 degrees.

The irons are a slightly different story. The standard hybrid iron is longer than a traditional iron, but shorter than a hybird wood. Now you may be asking why the irons are shorter. Well, the shorter length of the hybrid irons gives you more control. You end up with the control of an iron with the ease of hitting of a wood.

Hybrid clubs are meant to replace 3 and 4 irons as higher lofted clubs are also easier to hit.

Question
I’ve been trying to figure this out and I can’t really see a clear difference between the two types of clubs. Possibly the materials is the only definitive difference, but it seems to me they are for the same purpose in golf.

Please explain. Trying to get better at this wonderful game!

Answered by Russ C
The only thing really is the hybrid is much better at getting the ball out of the rough. Trajectory wise, the hybrid will give a higher ball flight(if your hybrid is about 21degrees). Also, it is slimmer when addressing the ball giving it a more iron-like feel to it instead of a large head of a wood.
Answered by ScratchGolfDoc
I agree with the above answer. Asked a local teacher here who has pga pro students and he said, “doc, they made cheating legal.” You should probable replace your 3, 4, and probably 5 irons with hybrids. The pros have. My 5 wood goes about 20 yards less then my 3 hybrid but I can’t hit it out of the rough as well. and I can’t get anywhere near the height on my 3 hybrid as my 3 iron which mean I have a hard time stopping a ball on the green from 200 yards out.
Answered by Big B
Another difference is that a hybrid for a given loft will have a shorter shaft than a fairway. In other words a 3 hydrid at 21 degrees will be shorter than say a 7 wood with 21 degrees
Answered by Stephen Mattes
A fairway woods is wider and generally goes farther. A hybrid is shaped more similar to an iron and goes shorter.
Answered by CAL
Big B is right. The reason they are called hybrids is because they are part wood and part iron. They use a head that is more like a wood and shaft that is more like an iron. The result is a club that gives you a high launch like a wood but with the control of a shorter shafted iron.

Also what other differences should i expect if i switch from a regular lie club. I do have sort of a slouched posture when i swing. Thanks.
Answered by Donkey
You should get fitted before buying those clubs. Your height has very little to do with the lie angle of your clubs. It is simply not worth your money to purchase clubs that are custom fit to a certain type of swing and setup if that is not how you swing and set up to the ball.

Hiya! Folica.com is one of my favorite places online to get hair care related,…well, everything. The hot tools are the brand I think of for curling irons and they are gold in color. They’re really good quality. Good luck!
Question
my local golf pro shop buys used clubs. i have a set of used adams pro gold irons…… with the two hybrids, all with javln shafts… how much do you think they would buy them for….. they retail at $ 1,199
Answered by Heather P
depends on the condition, how old they are, and the market for pre-owned clubs at the time (which, right now, isn’t great).
Answered by armandlkm
Your best bet is to research used prices on the internet, so you’ll be armed with proof to show them what they’re selling for elsewhere…this way they won’t try to “steal” them from you. Condition is important as well. Good luck.
Answered by green_lantern66
You’re probably better off selling on E-Bay, or trading them in for credit to someplace like Callaway Preowned or TGW.com.

It’s kind of like trading in a car, or selling a baseball card to a dealer- they’re never going to give you fair market value for them- if they buy it for less than what it’s worth, they can sell it near (or above) what they’re worth, that way they can make a profit.

Question
I have a tendency to slice the ball, Ive had it all my life and since Im older I probably wont change so:
What do you suggest would be the best driver to buy to if not eliminate, at least reduce my slice? I only have it with my driver, no other club.
Answered by Phil
Alot of clubs are making “draw” versions now that are weighted to help correct a slice. The Taylor r7 draw seems pretty popular and would be a good one to check out. It’s impossible to know what the “best” driver for you is without seeing your swing. I would recommend going to a good golf shop that has a hitting area so you can test a few out and get some advice from them.

Happy Gilmore likes to use his hockey stick to putt.
Answered by James N
if i was you i would try to hit one of the square headed drivers
Answered by Flatstick
Try one of the new “draw” drivers that have like a 4 degree closed face. Cobras and the original Taylor Burner are closed up pretty good. Or if you want to spend more get a Taylor R7 and adjust the weights to promote a draw.
Answered by cdc
Ya the new draw drivers would definitely help you. If money isnt a concern, I would say the Taylormade Superquad. If money is a concern, maybe the Cobra Speed series, or Titleist 905T. That club LOVES to go left, trust me. I dumped that thing the second I got it once I order it. Go to a golf shop and have them set you up on the launch monitor. Whichever club gives you the least amount of side spin, and the best launch angle is going to be the best for you. That is the only way to tell for sure.
Question
I mean, some say that he is the best restrictor plate driver in history, and some others say that he is a really, really, really, good driver at Phoenix. And yet some say that he basically “owns the desert.”

What say you?

Answered by rabidrobbie
No..
Answered by Jay
Dale isn’t the best driver at anything, anywhere, ever. Not the best restrictor plate driver, not the best short track driver, not the best at anything. He’d be lucky to be considered mediocre at best. To be the best you have to run well and win races. Earnhardt hasn’t done that in many years.
Answered by stuivengaj
No offense but in my opinion Dale Jr. isn’t that great of a driver. I mean he’s not terrible but without his dad he wouldn’t be as good because he wouldn’t be at Hendrick. He has his fans and his car because of his dad and We all know it. To answer your question, no he isn’t the best ever at anything.

Answered by Superdave //
Historically Dale Jr is not even close to being the best driver at Phoenix. The stats speak for themselves and they say Jimmie Johnson is the best driver in PIR history. He has a avg finish of 4.9 with 4 wins. Dale Jr ranks around 20th. Here are the stats for all current drivers at PIR:

some early 540s were declared illegal, the 580s all made are legal . still equal to anything out there with a shaft upgrade , definatly a keeper . best thing is you can go on a launch monitor be fitted for a shaft have brand new driver for less than 100 dollars , some are selling for 40 dollars versus 500 i am still trying to find spare one since i fluked right shafts for 20 dollars . hang on to it .

If it has the 8 small grooves in the middle of the club face it’s conforming.

The “illegal” version has no center score lines on the face.
Question
i am a beginner and i can drive a good distance with a good club head speed. But with the driver i have now i slice the ball alot and sometimes almost bad enough that it looks like it is about to come right back after doing a loop. so i have been looking for a new driver and the Taylor made Tour TP burner looks good and from the reviews sounds good. is this a good driver for me?
if not, what would be a good driver for me
Answered by Ml
Absolutely not! TP drivers are made for very low handicappers, and usually have 1 degree open clubfaces.
Try a Callaway FT-5 or FT-9 Draw. Taylormade Burner Draw, also good fit for you. Any draw driver will fix your slice, somewhat…but a lesson or 2 can do that too. You want something that has a sweetspot the size of New York.

Good luck…and have fun…it’s a great game!

Answered by aledjdy
If you’re slicing the ball with any driver, you should take lessons, not look for the latest/best driver for your swing. If you aren’t that seriously into golf, get a draw model as it will help moderately with your slice.
Answered by Dark Blue Knight
I would go with a Callaway FTI, I use to slice a lot too and since I got that one I don’t slice as often! (about 70% less)
Answered by Haydon
Spend the money on lessons instead. Any driver that is a ‘Tour’ version is usually designed for better players and is only going to make your slice worse.

Cure your swing faults first, then you can reward yourself with an new driver if you wish. If you currently use a very low loft, try something like 10.5-12 degree, which can also help minimize slicing if you dont quite middle your shot.

Answered by butterfly1970
Not to be rude, but if you’re hitting a boomerang and not just a fade, you need lessons and not a new driver.

Specifically, since you’re a beginner and think you have a good club head speed, you’re probably like many beginners and focusing on the wrong thing. A 108SS with an open face, off-centered hit is crap. A 95SS with a proper swing path, dead-centered hit will out drive you every time.

I’d also bet a dollar to a donut that you’re blocking. You probably think you’re swinging fast and hard, but your hands aren’t catching up to your body. This will invariably leave the clubface wide open at impact and you’ll hit the boomerang.

1. Try concentrating on keeping your eyes/head very still and behind the ball at impact. This ALONE corrected my fade/slice.
2. Make sure you’re on balance. If at any time you feel like you’re tipping over the ball or have to take a step to keep from falling over, you’re way off balance and probably swinging too hard.
3. AFTER YOU’VE MASTERED 1 & 2… If you’re still fading and want a draw, try closing your clubface *slightly*, try a stronger (not tighter) grip, and if it’s still not helping enough, try moving your right foot back slightly after you address the ball (assuming you’re batting righty).

Also, check your backswing. When you stop in your backswing, is the club almost vertical? If so, then you’re probably coming over the top of the ball which means fade/slice. Make sure when you’re at the end of your backswing, you look at the club and make sure it’s at an angle, almost like resting on your shoulder versus pointing at the noon sun. The butt of the club when at the 9 oclock position should be pointing at a line extending from the target back through the ball, not at your heel line (unless you’re Jim Furyk).

Only after you’ve got all this down do you need to consider new equipment. As much as TM would like you to believe you can buy a better game, you apparently need lessons at this juncture. If the money is just burning a hole in your pocket, email me and I’ll tell you where you can send it. I normally charge $ 65 for the above lesson. Read it 4 times and send me $ 300 (tip included).

Question
Tell me what you like and dislike about it.
Answered by Ohio_Golfer34
I hit it at a demo day here….I didn’t like the feel or the ball flight for my game. I hit a draw and that club made it more of a hook….there is defintely some draw enhancements working on it.

It looked alright and went the same distance as the other drivers…just crooked!

So I bought the Cobra Speed Pro X…..great driver….although loud!

Good luck!

Answered by Jake N
Callaway Big Bertha all the way. Not a new model but it will hit the ball farther than anyother driver. Don’t waste your money on a BRAND new one when a $ 200 Big Bertha will be better.
Answered by CJB
Nothing special, i ballooned the ball when i hit it. I am getting a Cobra Speed LD instead.
Answered by wbaker777
My opinion is that it is the “newest” Version of the TP and not a really great new incarnation at that. I hit it at demo days before I bought my R7……I guess you could say I was less than impressed.

TaylorMade Introduces r7 Draw Combo Set
Available November 2006

Press Release
Posted 2006-12-08

Recently, the TaylorMade Golf Company introduced a new line of golf equipment called r7 Draw, aimed at improving golfers who need help hitting a draw or softening a slice. The r7® Draw family includes a 460 cc driver, fairway woods, Rescue® clubs and irons, each sold separately.

Now TaylorMade has introduced the r7 Draw Combo Set, an eight-club set that combines two r7 Draw Rescue clubs (3 and 4) and six r7 Draw irons (5- through pitching wedge). A women’s r7 Draw Combo set is also available, consisting of two r7 Draw Rescue clubs (4 and 5) plus six r7 Draw irons (6-iron through attack wedge).

“More and more players, from tour professionals to club champions to high handicappers, are replacing their long-irons with Rescue clubs,” said Sean Toulon, TaylorMade’s executive vice president of product and brand creation. “That’s especially true for the type of player that needs help hitting a draw. By offering the r7 Draw Combo set, players don’t have to spend money on two long-irons that they don’t intend to use.”

The r7 Draw Combo set (men’s and ladies’) will be available at TaylorMade’s retail partners starting in mid-November, at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $ 840 in steel and $ 1,080 in graphite.

“We’re confident that many players will choose the r7 Draw Combo set based not only on the virtues of our Draw-Weighted Technology, but also on TaylorMade’s expertise at developing the best hybrid clubs in golf,” said Toulon.

TaylorMade has ranked an overwhelming No. 1 in hybrid use on the PGA Tour. More TaylorMade Rescues were put in play in 2006 than the next two competitors combined.* TaylorMade won 45 out of 48 hybrid counts on the PGA Tour in 2006, making it the clear choice amongst the world’s best players.* TaylorMade is also the hybrid of choice among non tour players – TaylorMade has ranked No. 1 in hybrid sales in the U.S. in 2003, 2004, 2005 and so far in 2006.**

I am either going to get a
54 degree sand wedge and a 60 degree lob wedge
or a,
52 gap wedge, 56 sand wedge, and 60 degree lob wedge

I can’t decide. Please help.

I am 14 and shooting low 40′s on 9

Answered by PLAYER
That is a good combination to work with. The 54 can serve alot of needs for you and it takes of the gap wedge out of the picture. Good luck this season.
Answered by Greg
Being a PGA Professional I am faced with questions like this everyday. The one thing I will say without any question is take your time with this decision! What I do with my students is find the average distance they hit each club and write it down. Then see what distance they need to fill in. In a perfect world we would have 10 to 12 yards between clubs. In my personal set I play a 52 and then jump to a 58. Can you hit some demo clubs? If so I would try both out and see what club is hitting the ball the distance I need it to travel

To get the correct answer will take work on your part because we all hit clubs different distances, you need to find what distance is missing in your game and buy the club that will fill that void.

As far as bounce, the more the better. Bounce is your friend. Stan Utley’s books will show you how to use bounce and hit great shots off hard pan with a wedge that has bounce. Today’s wedges are ground so you can open them up and not feel like the club is going to bounce into the ball.

GetGolfInstruction.com

Answered by old pro
The three wedge system is the most widely accepted method for the modern era players. Learning to control all three clubs will be a huge benefit to your short game but practise and more practise with these clubs is the order of the day. Lower scores are just around the corner with an improved short game so work on the putting too. Good luck for a good season.
Answered by googie
You are 14 years old and worried about gap and lob wedges. You should practice with a pitching wedge of 48 degrees and a normal sand wedge of 56 degrees. Once you master these clubs with half to full swing shots, then think about lob wedges and gap wedges. You would be better off mastering the 6 through PW which you will be using more often than the specialty wedges.
Answered by green_lantern66
The “ideal” is 4* between each wedge. However, as long as the loft gaps are consistent, you will still have an easier time with distance spacing than if they were all over the map. A pro example: Sergio Garcia games a 52* GW and 58* LW (he calls it a SW).
Question
I have a 60 and was planning on having one additional wedge (other than the pitching wedge i already have). I was wondering whether i should get a 54 or a 56 wedge?? My pitching wedge is a 48.
Answered by Dylan
well I would look at your yardage gaps. for example i hit my pitching wedge 125 i hit my 56 90 and i hit my 60 degree 65. you want a pretty consistent gap inbetweeen your clubs
Answered by Splifton
If you have a 48 and a 60, I’d get the 54. This way you are 6 degrees between your 60 and 48. This would be a good to use in the sand, for pitching and chipping as well.

Good luck!

Answered by Robert
i bought a 64 degree at walmart for $ 2.50 i think it was $ 25 but the point was i was almost able to get the ball up in the air and put the ball in my shirt pocket.
Question
Answered by Michelle C
the taylormade 60 degree wedge I have has a 7 degree bounce

not sure about best, but I’d assume that taylormade sets a pretty good standard

Answered by Jence
Oh. The dreaded bounce.

I have a 56-degreen wedge that has a 14 bounce. This is the worst thing ever. Higher bounces (say 10+) are only good for soft sand. The higher the bounce, the more it digs into the ground. Most people have a tough time figuring out why they flub so many chip/pitch shots and think it’s mechanical. In reality, it’s actually the one time you can blame it on the club!

I would strongly encourage you not to go above 8. If you’re a skilled player and run around with 4 wedges in your bag, perhaps keep a 54 or 56 degree with a 10 bounce for the bunkers.

Answered by Mark
I would say from 4 to 7 is good for a lob wedge, the less bounce you have the more chance of the leading edge digging in to the turf behind the ball. so if you struggle with duffing your chips around the green i would go for a lob wedge with more bounce.
Answered by David Ward
it really depends on what you want it to do and how good you are at doing it.
For links type play when you want to nip the ball less bounce is better, for parkland play or if you tend to fat the shot more bounce will be a big help.
My 56 has 14 bounce and my 60 has 8 so I have the choice depending on conditions and what I am trying to achieve.
Question
Please help me and show the solution… Thanks!
Answered by Joshua
A sphere has exactly 360 degrees. 360 degrees divided by 60 degrees is 60. So it would take exactly 60 60 degree angle wedges to fit into a sphere.

Answer: 60 Angle Wedges

WARNING! I have only done one of these before (on a previous problem from you), so it may not be correct.

Since 60° = (1/6)360°, a 60° wedge is 1/6 of a hemisphere, or 1/12 of a sphere.

So, I believe that 12 60° wedges can be made from a sphere.

Question
I remember buying this club from Walmart years ago and let someone borrow it who soon moved. Yes I know that its USGA banned, but it was so much fun to just watch everything spin back. So if anybody knows where I could buy this club again, let me know because I am having little luck finding someplace.

Keep checking your wallymarts- I got two last July at a WM in Antioch IL. Maybe ask the sporting goods person if they can track the UPC and find out if the other stores in your area have them.

During the testing of Di11 irons, a player at the end of the range hit bomb after bomb as players gathered , admiring the consistently powerful ball flight and the unmistakeable sound of a crisp strike. As we explained the technical aspects of the club- the low CG, ultra-wide sole, largest sweet spot, torsional stability, the player turned an announced , “just hit it and you’ll get it” . We couldnt agree more. The new Di11 is a powerful, playable iron designed to hook a whole new generation of players looking to take their games to the next level.

Question
I am a golf beginner, 14 years old.
I was practicing with an 8-iron club (in the driving range) with an average distance of 75 yards.
Then I switched to a 2-iron club with an average distance of (surprise) 80 yards.
Why is this, isn’t the 2-iron supposed to drive the ball a further 100 yards?
Answered by reidandsmythltd
If you hit an 8 Iron it will go higher than the flight of a 2 Iron, are you hitting both clubs with the same strength?
have you had any lessons from a golf pro? if you have not then before you get into bad habits, with swing ,stance etc go to a golf pro at the driving range and get a couple of lessons.

All the best keep the golf up.

Answered by honestexpert
Dear 64′ G,

As a beginner you are not striking the ball with much consistency. Proper instruction, patience and practice will result in identifying the approximate distance each club provides. I am assuming the clubs you describe are of the same model and have a progressive length difference. Visit a local club maker and at the very least have the length adjusted so the lie angle, (measured in degrees from the shaft and the head in a proper position). To save money adjust the length to approximatelyy the amount of your growth. Install or have the club maker install new grips. As a beginner try to get at least one season from your set of clubs. Also note that hitting a 2 iron is problematic for almost every amateur player let alone a beginner. You would best be served byacquiringg a hybrid or a 5 or 7 metalwoodd. A cautionary note: my suggestion on a simple length adjustment with new grips is a temporary fix and also includes the possibility of a stiffer flex and other issues. Once you decide you want to step up to the next playing level getting a properly fit set of clubs should be part of the process even if you have to do it one or a few clubs at a time.

The distance differences you are experiencing is caused by mishitting the ball with a novice swing at best. If youcommitt yourself to improvement you will soon see a difference of about 10 yards between the irons. An average high school player at 14 years old hits a 8 iron about 145 yards for boys and 125 yards for girls. There are exceptions but these numbers are based on teaching and testing over 350 freshmen players. The variables andreasonss are too numerous for this answer format but it assumes a center strike on the club face with a swing speed of 70 to 80 MPH with standard loft angles. Years ago manufacturers and designers began to lower the lofts and misinformed players thought the clubs made them hit the ball further, the reality was to lower the loft so that you may be playing with a loft on an 8 iron which can be +/- 5 degrees either way.

Try to practice at a golf learning center with electronic devices designed to give you distance and other factors which contribute to ball flight. If you can’t do this find a facility with flags accuratelymeasuredd when you practice. Ay amazon.com buy a used or new copy of “Golf My Way” authored by Jack Nicklaus. I consider it the bible for golfers of all levels. In one season following practical methods you will improve tremendously. Golf is a funny game. The better you get the more difficult it is to get better. You will improve by as many as 20 strokes for 18 holes and a few years from now lowering your handicap from a ten to a five is very, very difficult.

Should you have the financial means to acquire a professionally fit set of clubs make sure you select a brand with some resale or potential trade in value. In my experience Ping clubs offer this option and hold their value longer and higher over the years. That same professional fitting should include close attention to configuring the set to your personal playing abilities and personal goals.

Best of luck and your question is one I have heard from almost every student I taught. You’ll laugh about it one day because it’s just part of learning a very frustrating and difficult game to become proficient in. Welcome to the greatest game ever played.

Answered by green_lantern66
Loft of the face and total length of the club are factors in distance. There are multiple reasons why the 2 iron went “only” 80 yards, most commonly, because 2 irons are so freaking hard to hit. It’s easy to hit it off the toe or heel, which would cause a considerable amount of distance loss. It could also be that the club is just not right (too long, too stiff, lie angles are off, etc.) for you. Get rid of it and find a 5 wood or a hybrid- MUCH easier to hit!
Question
I am looking to buy a new set of Iron golf clubs and I found a set that I would like to buy but they have two different versions of them and I am unsure what one to get. I can get them as STIFF or FLEX now what one should I get? Also I am unsure what STIFF or FLEX means so please explain when tell me what one I should get.
Answered by Brian
it is stiff flex that is just how much flex is in the club i hit the ball about 285-300 yards consistently and i use x flex clubs if you cant hit it that far you might want a stiff or regular flex depends on how far you hit it

ps you probably havent played golf much if you separate the words stiff and flex

Answered by Josh E
The stiff shaft on golf clubs means that the shaft is not going to bend or Flex during your golf swing. If you have a fairly fast golf swing you want to stick with the stiff. When the clubs say flex it means that the shaft is going to bend during your downswing causing the head of the club to whip through faster. These clubs are designed for someone that does not have a fast or powerful swing. You can swing easy and still get distance on your ball.
Answered by Golf Digger
Go to Golf Galaxy or your local golf shop that has a launch monitor. They’ll figure out what your swing speed is and be able to suggest the proper flex for your swing!! Golf Galaxy uses a Vector Pro launch monitor which is pretty cool. It will tell you what your ball speed, club head speed, launch angle, and rpm’s for backspin and sidespin. All of this will help the pro determine what you’ll need!! Or you can check more info about the clubs at http://www.discountsgolfclubs.com
Answered by Jake
If you are a beginner, I recommand you the Regular flex, then stiff flex when you play golf better.
Answered by knh959
It’s not STIFF or FLEX. The flex is the whippiness (for lack of a better term) of the shaft of the iron. Basically there are four flexes to choose from – extra stiff, generally used only by touring pros. stiff – used by golfers with swing speeds of 95 mph and up; regular flex, used by golfers who’s swing speeds are in the 80-95 mph range, this is the most commonly used flex. Senior flex for slow swing speeds and some manufactures produce ladies flex as well.

Different shaft manufacturers may vary slightly from the above but basically that’s pretty close. What you need to do, is get your clubhead speed measured. From that point you can decide on which flex you want. Remember though, that the stiffer the flex the more difficult it can be to hit the ball well, so if your swing speed falls somewhere close to the point where you could go up to a stiffer flex you should probably go with the less stiff flex.

Question
Title says it all. I was wondering since the CG7 are older I think but how many years does Cleveland Release new irons?
Answered by green_lantern66
Every year, usually around April. Don’t worry, though, those CG7′s are just as good as anything they’re going to release, or have released since those sticks came out. Physics doesn’t change annually just because the marketing departments try to make you think they do.

These irons are the longest stainless steel irons we have ever created and provide increased distance without compromising feel or performance. The lower, deeper CG makes the sweet spot more accessible and is in-line with where amateurs most commonly strike the ball on the clubface, generating longer consistent distance and improved accuracy.

Question
How much smaller should a golf club be then you. I just want answers for my short irons. (7-9) and driver, plus i 4 iron hybrid thanks. What ever sounds right i will give best answer to
Answered by J
Nick,

That is a trick question. Golf clubs are not measured by how tall you are but by how far from the ground the first wrinkle of your wrist is.

After determining the distance between your wrist and the floor, then a length can be given for your Driver and 5 iron.

For each wood, (1, 3, 5 , 7) there is an inch difference between these clubs.

For each iron (2, 3, 4, 5, 6,…) there is a half inch difference between these. The 2, 3, and 4 iron would be longer then the 5 iron, and the 6, 7, 8,…, would all be shorter then the 5 iron.

So to get yours fit properly you would have to get your wrist to floor measurement and go from there.

Hope this helps,

J

Question
I have been golfing for 12 years and have played up to a 5 handicap. Since starting a new career, my playing time has decreased. I don’t expect to be able to carry around a 5 or 6 handicap now but I would like to be able to strike the ball better again. I am having trouble hitting literally everything on the toe of the club, woods and irons. Nothing is struck solid. Obviously this is causing a loss of distance and accuracy. I don’t get to the range much if ever but would appreciate any advice anyone could offer as to a common swing problem that causes this. My typical shot shape is a fade (not slice) with my driver and fairly straight with my irons (occasional fade, minimal draw at times). I am fairly long hitting driver around 285 yards on average when I am hitting it and average 7 iron is 175 yards. Please Help!
Answered by houtxsux
the reason you continue to hit shots off the toe is because your not dropping the club in the correct slot on the down swing it should be just inside of your take away so you probably are dropping it too far inside.
Answered by Golflectual
It’s a tricky issue (and a frustrating problem). Generally speaking it’s due to the club coming from the outside on the downswing (steep) and making a glancing blow to the ball. If the path of your downswing is the correct inside / square / inside motion you most likely won’t hit it on the toe. It’s also possible that you’re standing up (losing your spine angle) during your downswing which can also make you hit it on the toe. Believe it or not, stiffness and inflexibility in your hamstrings can cause your body to resist retaining the angles you set at address and make you stand up a bit prior to impact.

My suggestions are to do some drills that address your downswing angle of attack and make sure you’re hitting from the inside; as well as to start doing some hamstring and hip flexor stretches (you can find plenty on the net) – especially if your job involves sitting down for long periods of time. I think between these two you’ll start to find the center of the face more often.

edit: Check your set up as well. Are you too far from the ball? Are your arms pretty much hanging straight down from your shoulder sockets or are you reaching for the ball?

Good luck!

Answered by Rip
Balance, you are leaning back.
Answered by y2chunke
YOU ARE LOOKING UP AT IMPACT KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN
Answered by Steve T.
There are only two possibilities, you are either standing too far away from the ball, or you are standing up too straight.

With your new job, and less playing time, your swing has probably changed a bit, you have to adjust your stance to your new swing.

Question
Let’s say I have 155 yards to the pin. I can hit 150 yards with 8 Iron and 160 yards with 7 Iron. Thus, too short for 8 Iron and too long for 7 Iron. How can I adjust my iron distance little less or little more with a same club?
Answered by Reece
use your club which hits it slightly longer with and hold it further down the shaft..

just remember to keep your eye on the ball.. because obviously you will b slightly more hunched over.

this works with everything.. it will give you more control to! :)

Answered by Nick=tigerwoods
Choke down or up. Or just control your swing speed. Good luck!
Answered by solara 437
Choke down on the 7 iron. The rest is practice, practice, practice
Answered by adrizzock
You can always forward press a little at your set up to deloft the club to give you a few extra yards…you can move the ball back in your stance to deloft too to gain a little more distance from your normal “hands @ address position”…hence you can also move the ball up in your stance to create a little extra loft. Or as another post-er said, you can always try the choke down method to change distance. BUT…all of these mthods will require lots of practice before you’ll have to confidence to take these methods on the course.Good luck!
Answered by green_lantern66
Choke down an inch (hands closer to the steel) and make a normal swing with the 7 iron. Choking down will automatically cut your backswing a little short, which is how it takes that 5 yards off. MUCH easier than trying to squeeze out 5 yards from the 8 iron!
Question
I’m a beginner (never picked up a club before), have had 3 lessons. I’m trying to gauge my progress. Right now I can hit it 100 yards (and hit it straight)
Answered by Wheaties
About 120 to 140.
Answered by normal1
I hit mine about 155 yards.
Answered by olschool48
Until you really get comfortable with the clubs you use, and hit th eball properly, it will be very difficult to figure out. I am a 9 handicap and hit my 7 iron consistently in the 155-165 range. The best way to figure out your yardage at this point is to work backwards from a pitching wedge. You should hit your pitching wedge as a beginner about 80 yards, then about 10-15 yards more per club, so a 9-iron 92 or so, 8 iron 104 yards, and so on. good luck stay with it, its a great game
Answered by jack p
about 150 yards about because i can.
Answered by IceCube
Say 130-150 yards depending on your build; guy or girl. If you hit it solid and shift weight correctly and say you’re about 60-70Kg with 5.7-6 feet, you could hit it btw 160-170.

Taylormade T.P.A. VI is ingraved on the putter face
Answered by wbaker777
Well it predates 1997. thats the last year that there is anything on Taylormades site
Answered by bigman42718
if it has site lines on it that are two different colors, and maybe a flat fronted feep pistol grip then it is more than likely a mid to late 80′s model. in 87 or 88 somewhere in that period, taylormade had series of putters that had flat, upright and standard lies available. i think nick faldo putted with one of them to win the masters. wilson later took over this series of putters. and they had roman numerals but where the same putters as taylor made were producing. the just said wilson staff on them. hale irwin used a wilson staff model in his last us open win in the early 90′s. so that would make your putter in the neighborhood of twenty years old.

I think Scotty Cameron is superior in balance and feel. Once you put a putter in your hand you can just feel the weight and look down at it to see its top line. Nothing putts better, feels better or is more beautiful than a Classic style Cameron. Do your research this man knows putters.

if they were both blade putters I would tell you to get the cheapest, cuz IMO putting isnt really influenced by the type of putter but by the putty :D (puttee)

although the taylorMade putter is a big putter and i hate those bc you have no soft touch IMO, for me i put alot of overspin on putts so those putters wouldtn be good for me

None of us can tell you which clubs to buy. You’ll need to test them out before you buy them. However, we can reccomend you what clubs are good. Callaway and TaylorMade both have some very nice irons, along with ping, adams (high handicap), and titleist. Just go try different brands out at your golf shop and they can really help you out too. We don’t know your handicap so we can’t really recommend you any particular models. As for putters it is based on all feel. I bought a $ 60 dollar odyssey putter over a $ 320 scotty cameron because of feel. I suggest you look at scotty cameron and odyssey, those 2 brands have some amazing putters. Good luck.

Buy the Taylormade irons and Scotty Cameron putter and make sure you have them custom fitted.

You may choose TM r9 Irons and Scotty cameron newport 2 putter. last week I bought these 2 sets from ordergolfonline.com. I think it’s nice to play.
Answered by William
My friend, you are going to spend around $ 950.00-$ 1200.00 on the irons and putter if you go for the top end on both. I would have them fitted to your swing, etc by the pro and factory rep. This can be done either during Factory Demo Day at your Country Club or a Country Club you know is having a Demo. Day. By doing the club fitting in this manner you will be assured of a fit that is right for you and you should get more yardage for your buck. Also, if yardage is a factor, perhaps rangefinders could be a solution. Bakerman-20 might just help you with another problem!

Taylormade Rossa putters are crap. A week after having it, you would have wished you spent $ 109.96 on fried wangs than that piece of junk.

Odyssey White Hot tour putters. The #9 is the best.

Answered by green_lantern66
Putters are the most fickle piece of golf equipment, in regards to recommendations. Taylormade does make good putters, but so does Odyssey, Nike and every other brand out there.

There are two ways of looking at this:

1. Do you REALLY need a new putter, just because it’s scuffy? Has it been good to you? Do you like how it feels; do you find the sweetspot easily; does it just feel “right”? If so, maybe a new putter isn’t for you.

2. If you’re dead-set on getting a new putter (not here to judge), go to a golf-specific store and try as many as you can. Don’t forget to get fitted- not everyone is the “standard” 35″ that many putters are off the rack. Don’t settle- if you find something that is just perfect for you- try saving up for it if you have to. Putting is only roughly 20-25% equipment (the rest is technique and mental), but having your perfect putter can do wonders for your confidence.
