    Question
for a beginner what clubs have the maximum forgiveness, ease of use, playability and will last for years and still be able to be competitive with? Should I go with an all hybrid iron set like callaway ft i-brids or cleveland hi-bores, or should i stick with the traditional iron sets. which brand and series would be best to look into for my particular situation?
    Answered by packard1963
I would just make sure the irons and driver are OS (over sized) for maximum help with making ball contact. Find out your swing speed as well, most likely you will be a regular flex.
Don’t spend a ton of money your first set, keep the money to pay for your rounds of golf as green fees are expensive and most important have fun.
If you have fun and you wont most times just learning the game. chances are you will return and improve your game.

If I were a beginner, I would buy a used single 7 iron until my swing is formed.

When my swing is finally solid and I can hit 7 iron 150 yards 7/10 times, I would find a clubfitter to fit me and build a set for me.

When I was learning how to play (granted it was many years ago) we had the choice of blades……or blades. As a result I have played blades all of my golfing life. They taught me the importance of accuracy and the dynamics of a good golf swing. I carry 1 hybrid club in my bag and am just not comfortable with all these so called hybrid sets. I’d stick with traditional Irons for greater longevity.

Will just make it simple for you, go to your local golf store and get your swing analyzed, with this info they will make suggestions on the basics of what YOU need. Armed with this info, most golf shops have demo sets that you can try out on there range. Hit as many as you like until you find the ones you like. I don’t know where you live but if you are anywhere near michigan, Carl’s golf-land is great. Good luck , i hope you take the time and get whats right for you. Remember they are costly so take your time.

    Question
    My game:

I’m shooting 85-95 really looking to improve this summer, aiming and definitely breaking 80 this summer.

    I swing 90-100mph.
    My 9 iron goes 135.
    5 iron goes 200.
Definitely looking for irons that will help me get better and ones that I can keep for a couple years.
Forgiveness is important but not as much as feel.
I’m looking for an easy swing.

Besides those two iron sets, anything else you might recommend?

    Answered by John
personally I recommand you the mizuno mx 300 irons, it would suit you well.
    Answered by Jason G
I’m a forged iron player so I will always recommend the forged iron so get the MX-300′s.
Answered by your prob 1 ofthe tattle tales.
NO dont change, new clubs wont help, theyll just prolong your progression, if your distances are true in your other question, and your still hitting around 90, then you just need to learn to putt better. wan tto break 80? buying the best clubs wont help, you have to make putts.

keep what you got. if you have a 7 wood and your 5i isnt far behind you do NOT need hybrids.

    Question
I recently purchased a set of irons and rather than a 3 iron it came with a 3 hybrid. I need to know if I should still carry a 5 wood with me or if this is now replaced?
Also, if your saying I should not get a 5 wood and instead carry a 3 wood, what about a 7 wood? Thoughts on having one of those too?
    Answered by J-Rod
No, they more then likely have the same loft. Keep the hybrid and get a 3 wood not a 5.
    Answered by jake d
keep the 5wood it is there to replace your 2iron not your 2iron.
don’t bother with a 7wood because that was designed to replace you 3 and 4 irons and you already have a 3hybrid.
Personally i would bother carrying a 3wood unless you plan to hit it off the tea as i’m guessing (and sorry if i got this wrong and have offended you) your not the most experienced player in which case hitting a 3wood off of the fairway could do you more harm than good.
If you haven’t already then i would look at replacing your 4 and 5irons with hybrids aswell. however that depends on how well you hit them, dont change something that works!
Personally if you havent got a sand wedge i would advise you to get one and if you find yourself on a course where you have to stop the ball pretty much dead on the green then i would also get a lob wedge (i know “they” say inexperianced players shouldnt get one but its alot easier to get the ball high and to stop straight with a lob wedge than it is opening the face on a sand or pitching wedge)
however….be careful not to become an equipment junky! Ultimately its your swing and skill as a golfer which will determine your score not your equipment,
    Answered by Mike
yeah kus they have different lofts
    5 wood:18 deg.
    3 Hybrid:21 deg.
    Answered by Spartan Golfer
    Maybe.

If the 5-wood is 18* and the 3-hybrid is 21-22*, then it makes sense to have both.

But if both are the same, or just 1* different, it doesn’t make sense.

    I’ve asked a similar question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArPKtMwNens4bSALGFGFDzvty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070401120334AAcl28I

    Answered by thefistofdoom
My 3 hybrid is 21*, and my 5 wood is 19*. Even if they were the same loft, the 5 wood shaft is still like 2 inches longer which means it will play as a longer club anyway.

The answer to your question depends on the shaft length and loft of the clubs (assuming they are both the same flex). Or you could just hit them both at the range and find out if there’s a difference in length. Good luck.

It’s fine. Loft on a 5 wood is usually 18 degrees while loft on a 3 hybrid is usually 21 degrees. A 7 wood and a 3 hybrid are similar in loft. Use one or the other not both.
