Question
Is a 1 and 2 iron included in the 8 iron set?
Answered by David32465
It’ll be one of the following:
A. 3 – PW
B. 4 – PW and either GW or SW
C. 5 – PW and GW and SW
Never seen a set of 8 irons that included 1 or 2 irons. If the manufacturer makes those clubs you can usually have them added to the set.
Question
I need some help from the Golf Pro’s out there. I’m looking for a Tommy Armour 855s Golden Scot 8 iron Graphite Shaft. It has to be the Senior Flex model and a men’s right handed club. I believe these clubs were made in the middle to late 90′s. Any ideas or suggestions of places to look (besides the obvious like Ebay and Amazon) are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!
I have been monitoring Ebay for over two months now – and no luck the entire time. You also can’t order this club, they do not make them anymore. I’ve checked a lot of golf club websites and nothing there either. Thanks for any advice.

mom – That’s going to be a real tuffy to find…

It’s a model that wasn’t that popular and it has an odd shaft.

Here are some site’s to try:

You might also try to contact Tommy Armour…they might be able to help:

Question
I have a problem with hitting my 7,8, and 9 iron. Whenever I hit the ball with my 7-Iron it goes about half the distance my 7-Iron should normally go. I hit the ball clean and everything I just can’t get the 150 yards out of my 7-Iron that I use to be able to do until I took golf off for a month. Bottom line is that I hit the ball clean and don’t get any distance, it’s terrible. Thanks
Answered by David P
first off those are the 3 easiest clubs to hit in your bag.

My suggestion is to go take a lesson or two.

Answered by Xx Xx
Hard to say. If it just started happening unexpectedly maybe there is something wrong with the shaft, the hosel or the grip. Try borrowing one from someone to see if you still have the same problem. If it’s your clubs then you’ll hit the borrowed one better.
Answered by Steebo
While on the range, take the power off a bit. Focus on form and finish. You normally lose distance with static wrists and a lack of follow through. Slowly add power to the mix again. Also keep an eye on your loft. If you are too lofty, you will lose a bit of distance. Close the head a bit and work back to open.
Answered by Solomon Grundy
You may need to seek a pro on this one. When you have those clubs in hand, you should be salivating over the opportunity to get it close. It simply sounds like you’re not making proper contact and there can be a multiple reasons for it. Without seeing your swing, it’s difficult to say. You may be coming out of your stance at impact and that will cause you not to hit the ball solid enough. Stay down and through your shots even after impact. If you hit the ball where you’re looking, you’ll have plenty of time to see it. It’s hard to describe the sound of a well struck shot, but if your shot sounds all clanky, then it wasn’t struck well and it won’t go as far as you would like.
Answered by aaron s
Those are the easiest clubs to hit (the low distance irons) so maybe you should get some new irons. I don’t know what to say since you are hitting it square and its not going anywhere so maybe get a lesson or get a new set of irons.
Question
the ratio of the distances a pitching wedge and an 8-iron will drive a golf ball is 4 to 5. If a golfer averages 137 yards with a pitching wedge, how far should she average with an 8-iron?
Answered by Marley K
set up the proportion:

4/5 = 137/x

cross multiply:
4x = 5(137)

divide both sides by 4:
x = 5(137)/4 = 171.25

ANSWER: She should average 171.25 yards with an 8-iron.

that’s it! ;)

That’s different for every player – you won;t get a correct blanket answer on that.

For me, my 8 iron is just over 150 yards, and every club up from that is worth another 12 – 15 yards.
One of my regular golfing buddies gets about the same extra yardage from his up-clubbing, but the starting point of 150 yards is his 9 iron, so you see how this is tough to say.

You’ll just have to go and spend some time at the range and get to know your clubs and how they work for you.

Answered by Sara Bauer
This is no lower end of how far each club goes. People have been know to whiff (not move the ball at all), hit it backwards or sideways. Weaker players might hit their longest club 50 yards, but also might hit their shortest club 40 yards. So no lower end.

Tiger is not the longest hitter in the world, but he’s close enough. Here is a link to a question asked on this site about how far Tiger hits it and here is the answer – http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080423195638AAvMzNq.

Answered by googie
There is no specific range for an iron. The distance will be different for each player depending on his swing speed, his strength and his ability to hit the ball on the sweet spot of the club face. Say that the average yardage for a 9 iron is 110 yards. For the next club figure 12 yards more etc. through the remaining numbers.
Answered by Ml
Funny question….all golfers are different. Tiger can hit a 6 iron 260 yds. I’m a scratch handicap and I hit a 6 iron 180 yds. A buddy I play with hits his 6 iron 150 yds.

Varies for everybody!

Answered by vdrive_60
Here’s the key. You find your most consistent club (mine is an 8 iron) and you groove a yardage. For me it’s 152 yards. You simply build from there.
7 iron- maybe 161-163
9 iron 145-147
Something like that. You can’t be intimidated by other people’s yardage, however. Get your yardage right for you, and club accordingly.

  1. TB says:

It all depends on your swing speed, how solid you hit the ball, and the course conditions (wind, wetness/dryness of the fairway/green). Here are my yardages for my irons* and swing speed with driver: My average swing speed with my driver is 117 mph (had it measured), 9:160,
    8: 170, 7: 180, 6: 190-200, 5: 210, 4: 220, 3: 230-240.
*All these yardages are with perfect conditions and perfectly hit golf ball.

  2. Allan D. in Big D says:

Nobody can tell you that. Depends on how far you hit those clubs.

  3. Dave says:

    For me:
    9: 105-125
    8: 125-140
    7:140-155
    6:155-170
    5:170-185
    4:185-195

It will depend on your swing, strength, and equipment though.
